View Full Version : Crystal for clearing negative energies?

I give several tarot readings per day, and I like to cleanse my deck as often as possible, as well as divert negative energy from myself (it's easy to pick it up if you're not careful!).

There are so many crystals used to clear negative energies, so I'm asking for opinions on the single best stone for clearing negative energy. I figure I can take the recommendations and then choose a stone that really appeals to me. I already do wear an amethyst point on a chain, so I'm looking for choices other than amethyst.

Thanks! :D

hrmm,
To shield against negativity, i would prefer/suggest obsidian.
... obsidian is a stronly protective stone, forming a sheild against negativity. ...

Well, I see why you would say this; however, Hematite not only "sheilds" from negativity, it absorbs it...in fact, hematite rings will shatter after they are "full" and if looking for something to actually absorb negative energy and not simply block it....Hematite seems a better choice IMO.

It's always seemed that hematite is the best choice.

The problem with hematite is that many can't wear it long or use it for long as it's too strong for the sensitive or they feel negative effects ... this has been confirmed by many stone/crystal followers. my suggestion was simply an alternative...

i agree with that very much

i would suggest a black rough tourmaline

i call it electric fence with guiding dog. think rottweiler or doberman

hematite more or less reflects negativity back to its sender

the stone that will ground the negativity would be onyx (chalcedony)

obsidian has been well described by Wolfscout - making a shield - but onsidian isnt for the faint hearted ones, it can be a roller coaster ride as it undoes blockades....

agates are grounding stones, slized agates are used to protect from negative/ill influences and evil sight

ETA:
a completely different approach would be taking a chunk/group of clear crystal quartz with you for your cards.

it helps clairvoyence, connects to the divine, eases divination and meditation is stone of enlightment and also is a stone to clear negativity

I can't touch or be in close proximity to hematite. I've heard that from other shamanic practtioners as well.

I often go for a smoky quartz in the circumstance you're describing Aurora. I'd like to hear CzechWoods take on this one, though, becuase of his expertise with stones!

I wear a rutilated quartz when I'm working.

Hematite indeed isnt easy to handle. I have discussed it on MW on several Hematite threads. I have also gathered the information (and still update it) on my online museum site

for those interested to elarn more about side effects of hematite

:colorful: anyway

the smokey quartz for that purpose is a great thought indeed. it is an often neglected stone - and I have to admit that I too dont think of it at first hand.

a good stone to get that which is in the shaddows into light, without being as blunt as clear quartz - sometimes the better thing.

the only trouble is to get a untreated smoke quartz. watch out not to get ARKANSAS smoke or morion quartz - for it is very likey to be radiated by man, which fades throughout the time, and also is not the the true smokey vibe. _tsk_

the wearing of rutile quartz is :elf: fantastic. rutil quartz is very good for divinatory purposes among others.

I just ordered a smokey rutilated quartz pendant set in sterling silver from eBay. I'm hoping that'll do the trick! Thanks to all for the great advice. :D

I'm a mental health worker so the rutillated quartz is like a life preserver keeping me afloat amongst my patients.

Just wanted to mention that you can keep an eye out for jet. I've found it's good for soaking up any nasties that may be about - and it's not as... *searches for word*.. "intense" as hematite :)

Other than that I was going to suggest smokey quartz or obsidian. I'm sure your pendant will do the trick. good choice :D
