View Full Version : A deity to aid with school?

This may sound petty BUT... I am in hot water (no, make it boiling water) as far as academics goes. It's my first year in high school, I have finals rapidly approaching (Friday and Monday and Tuesday next week) and I have to give a huge speech for English (I hate speeches! Really, I freeze up in front of people, no matter how much I've pracitced) and I'm screwed for an enormous science project because no one in my group gets along and the paper's due Friday and we only have one experiment done plus the intro to the paper.
Wow, sorry for the rant. Here's my dilemma: I'm searching for a deity within the Celtic pantheon who might be able to give me some guidance... at least make things tolerable in the end, because otherwise my grades are going you-know-where, and I cannot stand that. I was thinking perhaps of Lugh, but I wasn't sure... I'm going to hold a ritual tomorrow if all possible, so I was hoping I might get some advice? Anything's welcom, and thanks loads!

LOL...im sory but that is quite amusing. I am in my 5th year of highschool about to go to College...now my advice may not be helpful to you but I think it needs to be said. To be honest, it is quite petty...now if your looking for a God who can give you an uplifting and the ability to do things on your own then look to Ogma, he is the God of Speech and learning of the Tuatha De Danann of Eire (take a look here, it has soem information http://community-2.webtv.net/TerMcC/Ogma/ ). Thta being said, this early I would not worry about God's assistance...one of the things about highschool is it will become increasingly difficult unless you punch it down and get on top of it YOURSELF...believe me when I say after a while the skills learned will make an exam or a speech or the dreaded essay seem like nothing! With me, my only problem is I tend to have to pend more time editing down my stuff than actually writing it becasue there was so much lol. But yeah, try and face this yourself without a rituel...I think you will reap more of a reward than any Goid could reward you with, because you did it yourself. :) Namaste

Thanks! Yeah, I think I'm just so stressed... and desperate... Thanks though, that actually opened my eyes A LOT!
Just a side note... I'm a good student but this (combined with a lot of outside factors) is just a lot for me to handle right now... I don't procrastinate, I don't blow off studying or tests or homework or anything, but the idea of failing for reasons that aren't my fault (*coughsciencecough*) doesn't seem right, that's why I'm so pissed off (and excuse my language, sorry.)
Thanks though.

PS. But I've heard of people calling on deities for help with jobs and such... if one is a good student is it not the same as a job? Except you don't get paid of course... lol. I mean, I've known people who've called on deities for work related issues and have been helped, or so they say. Like I said is school not the same?
Besides, I'm still a little new to this...

Since you are looking for a goddess within the Celtic pantheon, I suggest Brighid. Brighid will motivate you to get some work done.
I'm into the Greek pantheon, so I usually call upon the Muses or Athena when I'm needing some help in acadmic areas or creativity.

Sounds like Cerridwen (http://inanna.virtualave.net/celtic.html) might be just the Lady you're looking for:
""Lady of Inspiration": To the Celts of the British Isles and Brittany, She was Goddess of Wisdom, Poetry and Grain. Her annual slaying of Gwion mimics the change of the seasons. She is often depicted with Her Cauldron of Wisdom.
Moon and grain goddess who possesses the great cauldron of knowledge. Sacred to Cerridwin: cauldron; vervain; dark moon.
Mother of Taliesen, greatest and wisest of all the bards, therefore she is patron of poets. Caridwen corresponds with Brigit. She is connected with wolves, & some believe that her cult dates to the Neolithic era. Originally a corn goddess."
Patron of bards and poets should give you a lot of facility with your tongue and wit for your presentation, as well as for the seeking and dispensing of knowledge.
(Working very hard and studiously from this point on is also recommended, of course)
Best of luck!

Celtic? Is it because you connect with it the most and the like?
I don't know about Celtic, but when I saw your thread's title, I immediately thought Saraswathi of Hinduism.

Thanks again everyone, and my apologies again for being so harsh, Galadraal; it wasn't my place.
Well, someone must have been listening or something because everyting worked out without a hitch. Science was finished on time (don't know how that happened) and my speech for English was awesome!! *grins* I actually had fun with it--which means it was awesome.

But the distinction here...did you do a rituel? If not, then it shows you YOU are responsible and to thank for your success...:D
Namaste
Tobias...
p.s. I did not see any harshness ;)
