View Full Version : In Memory of Zoe
Semele

Our sons familiar, Zoe, passed away yesterday. She was only a baby but already meant so much to him. She was so gentle and passive and let him carry her around all over the house in any manner he chose. The bond those two shared was priceless. I am saddened by his loss, but I know she will return to him soon in another form. Please remember her in your thoughts and wish her a quick return.
This is a picture of her a few weeks ago. We barried her in the back yard and Trey made her a nice cross. He colored it and wanted to write on it. He asked how to spell I love you and goodbye. Then he wanted me to write her name. He also asked me to write "Go home", which I didn't. After thinking it over, I now know where his heart was. I know she will indeed go home soon.

Well I really didn't want to get into all the details for several reasons. One, I am still feeling guilty and two it is upsetting to even think about. However, I know a lot of you have kittens and may learn from our experience. Both kittens and even the big guy like to get in the dryer as we are pulling clothes out. I am constantly having to run them out of there. Well she must have jumped up there just as I was about to shut the door. I am thinking when it started she got tangled in some of the wet clothes and it either knocked her out or snapped her neck, hence no meows.
This is one of the saddest things that has ever happened at our house. So, you guys be careful and make sure to keep your kitties out of the utility room.

that kind of thing happens alot with kittens. My family lost 1 or 2 that way. And a few friends have lost theirs that way too. They are just to rambunctious and curious for their own good sometimes.
Very sorry. Just an accident, and those things cant all be avoided.
Still feel bad for Trey, little tykes have a hard time with this stuff.

Semele, I know what it is like to lose a beloved pet, as I have lost pet cats before. Some due to my own inatentiveness, and others due to unavoidiable circumstances. But whatever the case, we shouldn't hold ourselves responsible for their demise. Sometimes I wonder, however, if they do come back again because of the similiarity in personalities between my new kitties and those that were lost!

Semele, try not to allow yourself to feel guilt, over something that was obviosly a terrible accident, that you could not have anticipated. I am sorry for your loss hon. I know you and the tyke must feel terrible right now. I've been through the loss of a pet, so I can understand.
The only reason I asked, is that my friend adopted a kitten from an animal shelter during the summer. It passed away in September from FIV (feline AIDS)...she had no idea that he had this disease, since it's not one of the things they test for prior to adopting them out, and unless you specifically ask a vet to perform the test, they don't. So I wondered if that might be it.
I am so sorry for your tragedy. I've lit a candle for Zoe, and for Trey.
