Sorry to share my personal ramblings of depression here - I'm just so sad today. I never really understood how Birthdays were for some people the saddest day of the year, but I can see their point now.

I'm 20.

I always wanted to be in my twens, thought I'd be grown up and life would be good. It's not. I'm still the same sad, depressed, ugly and lonely act that I was for my whole life. 10 minutes before and after midnight don't change anything.

Doesn't it say a lot, that one of the brightest birthday card I got was from "Yahoo delivery" ? Oh the joys of modern technology, of information age and customer control!!!

After I woke up this morning and got dressed, nothing festive happened. I only got in an argument with my Mum and when I arrived at school I was in tears and couldn't stop crying - what a great entrance that made.

The best thing that happened to me, the most precious gift I got today was a hug. A real, big, bone-crunching hug. I can't remember when I got a decent hug the last time... happened quite long ago. And the best thing was that it was from a friend I hadn't really talked to since February because we somehow got in an argument (=prolonged silence - we never really argued, we just stopped talking). It felt so great. I missed it so much.

But in the end I'm sitting here, crying. Because no one really cares. While you send out birthday cards, you just don't get them back. You check the mail, only to find it empty - or worse, filled with adverts. And marketing-strategic ecards that are created to make you feel remembered - and only show you how forgotten you really are.

Sorry to have bothered you, but I just had to get this out of my system. I know it's all probably only half as bad, but right now, that I feel so terrible, I don't really care.

I can feel it strongly, and that's what makes it so bad for me.

I know exactly how you feel, sweetie. My 21st birthday was spent in the company of people I don't consider friends... my family was out of town... my 2 best friends had to work, and *woops* forgot to call me... my brother forgot until 2 weeks later that my birthday had come and gone... I got 1 birthday card from a friend in Pennsylvania... and one from my Grandma. It hurts.. it really hurts. People think that just because you get older, you stop caring about your birthday, and you don't need a simple little card (hell, most are 99 cents now!) just to say they were thinking about you... and thats wrong. No matter how old you are, you always need to be cared about... and loved. Even if ya can't afford a card, a hug is a wonderful gift.

Thanks for your caring and your good wishes...

I just sometimes fel so lost I don't know what to do.

The best thing that day has brought me is that my friendship with said huggle-giver seems to be back on track and we talked nromally for the first time today. I never thought this would be and it's the greatest gift I could've thought off :)
