I'm just wondering, as several threads mention matron goddesses, how you find who yours is. I haven't really a clue how to, you see.

Well, I did research. Bought books and stories on different god/dess until I found one that fit what I wanted in a god/dess. Then sometimes a name of a god/dess comes to you. Maybe one who heared of before and just cannot stop thing about. My god is Thor. I just don't know why, I just cannot not get him off my mine when ever I think of a male god he just pops into my head. As for my goddess, I chose Melusine. I found her by reading myths and just really got to like her.

I've been wondering the same thing! Thanx for the info, clef. I've been doing a lot of research, but haven't 'clicked' with one yet.

Namaste all,

i agree with chef on that. research is the key.

One great recourse would be the book of Patrica Monoghan "Book of Goddesses and Heroins" - a book all my students automatically get ;)

Also some people deveölop an affinity to a certain deity through their prefered paths or interests. Example: healers will be driven to healing gods, or maybe if you always loved to have everything cleaned up, Hygaia (sp?) would be already calling you.

Next to research, meditation is a key. Sometimes God/dessess will appear in your meditations, and guide you.

One good way to help you overcome the emptyness till your very special patron/matron comes to you, is you choose grandma/mamma moon. She is so beautiful and powerfully conected to our lives, even the non pagan lives (think of poetry, warewolf movies, etc)

Thus you can strat your personal relationship to that deity, always present, ever ready to listen and often also to help. Try living in synergy with Her changing phases, get awareness about wgat sign/phase She is in, and how it effects you. you will soon have a dear friend and relyable helping source.

funny thing. even after you have chosen other matrons/patrons there after, you will find out Moon never forgets you, and in times of deep need, She will just gently puff you, so you know, you are not all alone.

Blessings

Hey everyone!
I didnt really know about matron goddesses but then I read this book and it had a mention of Brigantia and I just clicked. So I did som reasearch an found out she was the Earth goddess of the Celtic Brigantee tribe and I used to live in the area where they, all those years ago, had lived. Wow.Then I did more research and found that Brigantia was parrallel to Brigid the Irish goddess and only then did I find out about matron goddesses so I took Brigantia on as mine.,Does that help anyone?
