Do you mean share it with another person...or share the purpose of the altar...meaning does the surface have more that one purpose...like say a nightstand or the like.
I, personally, would not feel comforatble sharing an altar
with another person..you would have to cleanse it of that persons energies prior to you using it...although if you would be using it together...then that would be fine.
As for the other if the suface used has a duo function...that's fine.
Hope this helped!:D

I share an altar with my husband and it works fine.
You can either make sure that there are some tools belonging to each person on the altar, and allow both of you to use them, or you and the other person can join in getting tools specifically for use on the joint altar, with neither of you owning any particular tool.

Mmm. Clense it together, mingle both your energies into the altar before you work with it.

by both of you doing a clensing ritual together, for the altar,
it will be more meaningful for one...and it can also have an effect on your magical workings..... try it ...and you will see... you will begin to reguard your alter as a special place..... you'll see what i mean.. its something that I cant put into words because there are some things that you just have to experience for yourself ;)
hope this helps.......let us know how it goes
