I don't work with any 'evil spirits', but I know ropes are often used in bindings, and magic cirlces, various spells. Perhaps looking up the use of rope in ceremonial magic may help? Just a sugestion, I don't know very much about cerimonial magic, or even enough information to tell if what you're friend is doing is even classed as the same practice.

It would depend on the magickal tradition that the person is practicing. I know some traditions use a rope/cord around the waist, to represent a circle of energy surrounding them. They can be used to define a magickal space, or to bind something. I know mirrors are often used to "reflect" bad energy or spirits away. A lot of folks hang mirrors directly across from their doors, to keep bad things out.

Again, it depends on the tradition. Find out what particular tradition your friend follows, and go from there.

or tying up grumpy coworkers...ooops...did I say that???

Rope is great for knot spells, binding....even releasing negativity...tie a knot in a string of rope for everything that is bothering you and beat the negativity...just kidding...just focus on the negative influence and as you release the knot...visualize the negativity floating away.....

some people use rope/cord to tie an 'evil sprit' (pain in the butt person, rotten person etc) into the knot, thereby binding it so it cannot do anymore harm. Then you would bury or dispose of the knot in what ever way seems fitting to you.
