View Full Version : The Calling

I am very new to this myself, actually, not new, just am finally listening to the inner voice.

From the moment that I had some semblance of memory, I felt the "calling" but didn't and couldn't comprehend it. As a teenager, the gift was very strong, but the belief then was fear...the fear of being a 'freak'. As a young adult, I tried to ignored the inner voice, but it was difficult to totally block out the warmth of the Goddess within me. It seems that no matter what I did, she never left my side. I made life altering mistakes, but She was always there embracing me, urging me to go on, all will be alright. It brings tears to my eyes now as I type this.

As I near middle-age, I realize that by trying to ignore the "calling", I ignored myself, my own personal growth. Once again, I am a toddler, trying to learn the art of walking, talking, listening, and understanding. I am now in search of the path that will lead me home.

For once, I am finally listening to the "inner" voice for guidance, but if there is any one who could recommend reading and research materials that will help nourish my soul on this long journey, I would greatly appreciate your in puts, recommendations, and suggestions. I am a receiver, and have practiced novice Tarot reading. I am great at helping others, but flucked the self-assisted course. I want to set my soul and spirit on flight, but I just don't know how...

The craft by Dorothy Morrison is a great book. It's not a book of spells or anything like that but it gives you basic descriptions of the tools you will need consencrations for them, meditations, sabbats, esabats, circle castings and more. It's a great place to start, at least in my opinion and it's still in print.
Brightest blessing,
Pheonix

I personally like a lot of Silver RavenWolf's work. But that is just my opinion. Scott Cunningham is good too.

Thank you all for your "welcome" and suggestions. I will take your recommendations to heart. There are several writings by Silver Ravenwolf that I will absorb as well as many others. I seem to be a child of the moon, thereby, "Embracing the Moon" by Yasmine Galenorn is also on my reading list.

Two books that are really brilliant are The Spiral Dance by Starhawk, and Phyllis W. Curott's Book of Shadows. (The second is more a Witch autobiography than a 'how-to' book, but it's one of my personal favourites.)

Welcome, Myth, and Merry Meet!

Your path sounds much like my own. I also am finally honoring the path I was meant to walk all along, even though it took me until I was 40 to realize it. I also strongly recommend The Spiral Dance by Starhawk. Nothing wrong with the other recommendations you've been given, but Starhawk has a bit more depth than most. Another wonderful book is A Witch Alone: Thirteen Moons to Natural Magic, by Marian Green. It's hard to find in bokstores, but you can get it through Amazon.com. Her and Starhawk are the Craft's two most talented writers, IMO.

In addition to the suggestions already mentioned, at the top of this forum there's a stuck thread that has a bunch of recommended sites you can check out.

Best of luck on your journey...
