This editorial brought me down memory lane to halloweens when I was young. Hope it does the same for you.

I was reminded of my favorite halloween of all time.......
deffinately when i was in 7th grade and my sister and I were allowed to go trick or treating by ourselves for the first time...back then trick or treating was still done at night..
anyways, we went to thomas's house to get him and his sister, then the 4 of us went on our quest to fill our Pillowcases with candy... we went all over our neighboorhood and a few neighborhoods near us, it felt like we were in another real or something , it was really magical with all the costumes and homes that were set up as haunted houses...
one house, the dinning room table was set up like a bufett and there were bowls of candy and we got to take something from each bowl as we walked around the table...then in the basement was a lil scarey thing followed by cookies and juice.........
i did not want that night to end...it was like fairly land....
as if a faerie godmother waved her wand and enchanted my town....
the next day in school we had to write a story about trick or treating....alot of the other kids said sorta the same thing that they felt it was a magical nite..........this was the halloween of 1980 if anyone has any thoughts or experiences :)

Gosh..i don't remember what I was in 1980....my favorite years were the one I dressed up as a hobo, complete with coal smudges on my face, and a stick with a "sack" attatched to it slung over my shoulder, and the year that my brother, and his best friends dressed up as ghost busters, and I was Slimer. But..as I said...i don't know which years they were. I just remember going with my dad the year I was a "hobo"..and my brother and his friends, and feeling independent, because my dad would drive us to differen't streets, and drop us off, wait for us at the bottom of the hill.....that was cool. Just hanging out with my brother and his friend.
There's always that ONE particular house that gives out the REALLLLLLLLLY good goodie bags..or the Regular sized candy bars instead of the 'funsize" candy bars. And then theres alllllllllways the house that give you an apple, a bag of pennies, or a toothbrush or something...Geezers!

I only remember one halloween. and have two single frame glimpses of another.. when i was four my ex-step father dressed as teh grim reaper on our floor of the apartments scared a lotof kds, and wearing a plastic barbie costume that i still think was stupid.
The time i really remember was dressing up as a gypsy with my best friend at the time. We got a lot of loot and got two huge stuffed trolls for getting to one house before everyone else. That was pretty cool. It's never been my favorite holiday as far as candy grubbin goes.

As far as Halloween goes, our high school was a big fan of "Devil's Night" as a whole...every year the night before Halloween was a night of general mayhem. Me I just went along for the ride. One time, the guys all got a huge 10 gallon bucket of corn and put it in the car and 8 of us crammed in with it. They went driving around throwing corn out the windows! And then there was some guy tailgating us pretty bad, so one of the boys reached for a handful of corn to throw at the car...only he got a piece of corncob instead and threw it at the guy's car. The kid driving just put the pedal to the floor and parked on this real windy back road and shut off the car...we saw him drive past really fast about 5 minutes later...
Hey what can I say? I grew up in farm country... sadly enough this was our entertainment!

I remember one time when I was in 3rd grade... which seems so long ago (jeez like... 10 years?), I dressed up as a pirate and went to trick-or-treat with a friend and his parents. We took one round around the place, and I got an idea.
Being the clever little demon I was back then, I decided it would be a good idea to mix up our costumes and make a second round for even more candy. This plan was even more devious since he was a football player. After switching costumes we both looked like two kids dressed up as Raiders.
Man I hauled in so much candy that night...

When I was younger it seemed that I always got sick on holidays. I can only remember going trick-or-treating once or twice. It suct. And one Christmas I woke up with the chicken pox........then when I was 18 I got knocked up on christmas.I've only gotten to take my daughter trick-or-treating once in her 3 yrs. and that was when she was a month old. I was sick the other 2 yrs and this yr I'll be having my sisters bridal shower on halloween night so I have to miss out on her Halloween fun AGAIN.
Next yr. Next year is my yr with my daughter...............I don't care if the sky is falling:(

I always had crappy Halloween's. Like when I was 12 and the crazy old man decided to shoot at the kids with a bb gun... that was fun, crazy old man.
Or the time when I found out my best friend was dating both of the boys I had a crush on when I was 14... I broke my finger that day, too.. stupid brick wall.
Or when I went to a party when I was 18 and drank too much vodka and made an ass out of myself in front of everyone.
Or when I was 8, and I was a clown, and so was my oldest sister (she's 8 years older) and everyone kept commenting on her costume and how cool it was, and no one said anything about mine. That started my insane jealous streak, I think.
Or the time when I was 17, and I dressed up as Gene Simmons for school and when I got there I realized I was the only kid at school with a costume. Seems there was a memo and an announcement asking us not to dress up, cause we had the ITBS testing going on that day and everyone thought it would be too big of a distraction. Boy, were they right.
Or the time when I was 16 and I was Eric Draven (The Crow) and some girl at school decided to beat me up because of it. I still don't understand that. Oh, and by the way, in case anyone was wondering.. I beat the crap out of her.
Or last year, when I had to physically throw someone out of my house cause he was attempting to molest all the girls at my party. That was actually kinda fun.
And still, to this day, it remains my favorite holiday. :) Can't keep a good witch down! :) hehehe

P.S. This post was supposed to be humorous... I wasn't trying to bring anyone down.. feel free to laugh. :)
