I had a cat once. I got her when I was very young, I believe I was only one. Appropriatly named for my age: Kitty. She lasted for 16 years, a very old cat.
The cat kicked ass, and that's putting it lightly. I believe one time she killed an opposum, not your ordinary hunter I think. I don't recall ever having to discapline her (you know, slap on the ass for getting on the counter), she never needed that kind of training. Very intelligent, very kind, and very loyal. She would visit me and on occassion sleep on my bed (she was an outside cat, so she didnt get to come in much other than when it was cold).
One day she jumped into the back of my grandfather's pickup as he was unloading hay. He had just finished, and she decided it was pleanty more warm in the cabin than outside. He unknowingly shut her in, and then left to pick up my little brother.
As they arrived at the babysitter's, he opened the back to get the carseat out and she jumped out. This was not too far away from my house, but far enough to where she was not familiar and couldnt find her way home. This was also during the 4th of July, and to my knowledge she was no friend to firework's noise.
I don't know why but when I was told what happened, I didn't think much of it. I knew she was gonna come back. In a few days we got a call from the babysitters saying they found her in their wood shed. My grandpa brought her back, but she was injured. It seemed she had been hit by a car (i believe a lung had been punctured, as a large air bubble was easy to find when you pet her). We had to put her down, and I didn't want to go with her because I couldnt stand to see her die. I just gave her a pet saying "good Kitty" and that was it.
The only animal I have ever owned long enough to love was my current dog Zowie. She's a brown/red haired mini dauchsund(yeah I spelt it wrong, sue me), and about 3 years old. I got her at the pound as a gift from my grandmother. She was tired of me stealing her dog (who is also a mini) at night to snuggle.
I was about to get an older mini, but my mother said it was sickly looking and to keep looking. After closer inspection, there she was.
I don't know what it was when I saw her, but I think it was instant attachment. I took her out of the cage and lead her in the back where they had a cage so you could play with them and see thier personality and such. She liked to play with balls and rags and things. Already I was pretty happy with her.
So I got her. Fifty bucks and a thirty minute drive later I was home. Later I find out she was a "repeat offender" at the pound. She had been returned twice for piddling on the carpets. I know from my grandmother's mini that they are very submissive and pee when they are intimidated, so I accepted it as puppy stuff. Eventually she grew out of it... and I had to refloor my room.
I can't really say which one means more to me than the other, because I loved them both. If you cant love any child more than any other, how can you do any different to animals?
My question is, what is a familiar? And are these animals my familiars? They certainly show(ed) a connection to me at many points in my life. I dunno, I'm just curious I guess.
