I'm in the mood to buy myself some Oracle decks and wanted to get everyone's opinion of what is the best Oracle deck you would recommend for someone to have?

Thats a tough question as its an individual choice. I have the Goddess Guidance & Magical Unicorn cards both by Doreen Virtue. Both are equally good, though the art work on the Unicorm cards is outstanding. Is there anything in particular you want them for? What kind of things do you like? There's angels, fairies, spirit guides, animal ones so like I said its an individual thing. Janet Boyer has some good reviews with pictures of the cards @ http://janetboyer.com/Reviews_Decks.html Theres also some reviews & pictures @ http://www.holisticshop.co.uk/index_divi.html if you look under the Divination cards. This is where I got most of my things from. Good luck & let us know what you decide!! :abanana:

Mostly for mediation and insight than anything else..

so far the ones i have consider is the Goddess Oracle by Virtue, Faries Oracle by Froud and Dreaming in Color, Greenman Oracle......i have even wonder if there was more of a sea theme in oracles.......

Yer theres a Mermaid & Dolphin Oracle deck by Doreen Virtue. I know loads of people who have it & love it. Am sure they sell it @ the Holistic shop (the 2nd link on me last post) I personally think the Magical Unicorn are excellent for meditation due to the superb artwork. You could get lost inside those cards!!!

I think the hardest part about oracles is since they are going to be exclusive for mediation and insight...trying to find one I can click with...lol...I know what I'm wanting to delve into..question is how to do it..lol

I'm not personally a fan of Virtue's decks.

Janto & Marashinsky have a Goddess Oracle and it's lovely and I've used it quite successfuly for meditation.

Froud's Faerie's Oracle might present a problem for meditation due to the fact that I'm pretty sure the faeiries will giggle at you the entire time. ;)

The Soul cards might be good for meditation. I don't have those, but they are sort of surreal looking and that might help with meditating.

They have reviews and sample cards of many oracle decks at http://www.aeclectic.net/tarot/cards/oracles.shtml (http://www.aeclectic.net/tarot/cards/oracles.shtml)

My favourite oracle deck is Froud's Faeries' Oracle. LisaT4P is right though that you have to have a good sense of humour to work with these faeries. They are definitely just as likely to play tricks on you as they are to lend a hand. But then, in my experience that is the most realistic depiction of faeries.

Check out that link though as there are a lot of great oracle decks out there.

It's a hard toss up..the Goddess Knowledge Oracle, Fairies Oracle by Froud, Mermaids and even the Greenman are all nice.....sigh..and then there's the Dreaming in Color *drool*

Keep in mind that the Goddess Knowledge Cards by Susan Seddon Boulet are not an oracle deck. They are more like a collection of art work by that her. The have a couple of paragraphs on the back of each card that tells you about each Goddess, but they can't really be used for divination purposes. You probably could use them for meditation on a particular Goddess, but not much else except looking at pretty pictures. :)

Ack......didn't even think of that...'preciate it! The hardest thing with seraching for decks online is not being able to really handle them and see if there is a connection and see them in person........

The book of interpretations that comes with the Faerie Oracle deck is really good -- very poetic and inspired.

If you like the Faerie Oracle, you might also like Froud's newer oracle-related work: "The Runes of Elfland." It's a book.

I made up a set of runes with Sculpey when I got my copy of "The Runes of Elfland" and keep them in a little cloth bag that I keep with the book. The text interpretations are really good, and the artwork, like most of Froud's stuff, is just amazing.

MM ~ The absolute BEST oracle decks are the Italian Sibillas. There's the Sibilla Della Zingara, the La Vera Sibilla, I Misteri Sibilla, Sibilla 800, La Magica Sibilla...these decks follow a similar structure like Tarot Decks but the artwork is different. La Vera (and the SIbilla Originale, if you're lucky enough to find that) look to be from about the 1890's. Sibilla Della Zingara has a WWI-era look, and the others are recent versions. http://www.intuitive-soul.com/gallery/ (http://www.intuitive-soul.com/gallery/) has pictures of most of the Sibilla decks, as well as other tradional European oracle decks. (That Grand Jeu Lenormand is wonderful, too, but lots of work!) Everyone I know who has worked with Sibilla has fallen in love with it. Yu can probably still get them at Tarot Garden, but if not, there's R. Somerville, Alidastore...just google the deck you like. BB, Stella

MM ~ Glad you like them! There's a whole world of oracle decks that we don't often see here in the US but they're quite common in Europe. In Italy you can buy Sibillas at the local grocery...BTW, thanks for recommending THIS forum! I'm only beginning to explore...an author's circle, wowzers! BB, Stella

The only oracle deck I've ever used was the Moon Oracle...definately for predicting the future, they really were totally oracle driven.

If you want to get a deck that's for mediation, though, I would suggest the Osho Zen tarot. It's specifically a deck for meditation and inner insight, and while it's not an oracle deck, you may find it quite useful. The artwork is stunning and the cards are not typically labled like tarot cards are, so some don't even consider it to be a tarot deck (it even has 79 cards instead of 78).

I have the Osho (OZ as I call them) they are gorgeous and very insightful cards...funny thing when I use them..they only work for doing relationships......right now still drooling over the fairies and mermaids and dreaming in colour......

I think the biggest thing is just writing out a list of pros and cons of what is beng searched for.....

Has anyone used or have any opinions on the dreaming in colour??

I went to The Froud's Faeries' Oracle website...Wow, that was great. I have seen his artwork before and it is very beautiful!I did a reading from it and it hit the nail on the head! I really liked the way it was worded as well. Maybe it is time to get a new deck? Um, there is a thought....I know my mate would love this deck as well.

Thanks for the link Bethra!

Here's a suggestion: "Cards of Alchemy" by Raymond Buckland. It's a very beautiful system which employs the imagery & ideology of Alchemy to give you readings that are something like horoscopes, with personality traits, etc. & indications of trends. I highly recommend them! :D

July 12th, 2005, 09:13 AM
Well I got the Oracle of the Goddess.....but Danubhe eyeing Buckland's Alchemical too, particularly after that reading you did for me (Hugs, thank you again)...I find myself drifting in that direction more and I think it has a lot to do with the fact that I like with how the Osho Zen wasn't really focused as much on divination but more on meditation which tends to be more in my alley.

MM ~ Drag me by all means. I do get carried away by Italian cartomancy. :abanana: Kerouac World is also very nice.
Hades has nothing on Seguin. At work yesterday a woman lowered her voice and started whispering about "three black men" and her "truck driver friend" advising her to throw firecrackers at them. :grrrrr: Soon afterward I developed a sore throat. I'm off to get the pins and the olive oil and take this off but next time I plan to say very loudly, "Why do you whisper when you mention black people?" :stomp:
Playing cards are a very good oracle deck! Check this out: http://www.hedgewytchery.com/cartomancy.html (http://www.hedgewytchery.com/cartomancy.html)

Have you picked anything yet Bladeraven? I've just been looking at the Dreaming in Colour cards again. Have they changed the website recently? The cards seem more stunning than last time I looked. They also have a Child's dream deck. Has anybody bought this? I would love to get this for my children!! Hmmm very tempting, though haven't seen anywhere in England that sell it yet!!!

I have seen a lot of hits from this forum to my website, so I wanted to stop in and say hello.....especially to you, Nellie, and thank you for the kind words about my deck.

We are very young as a company, about eight months old, and only now starting to put international distribution networks into place. In fact, we are waiting to hear from a UK distributor now. If that works out, it should take about six months or so to put in place. A very high percentage of our customers are from the UK, so we really want to be distributed there. But we do ship all over the world.

Some of our customers put group-buys together to save on shipping. We have a couple of tarot groups that purchase decks that way. One is in the UK, another in Ireland, another in Australia. Also, we offer wholesale pricing for groups if they buy a minimum of ten decks.

Thanks again for the kind words, and please don't hesitate to contact us if you have any questions.

Warmly,
Mindy Sommers

Hi Mindy,

You're welcome to my kind words. I only speak the truth. Your cards are beautiful. :)
Unfortunately I'm not a member of any tarot group and so not sure if I could afford imports from the USA. Am going to mention these cards to my friends however & might even buy some for Christmas presents, so I may well get enough to order in bulk!! In the mean time I'll just have to drool over the pictures online!!!

The Soul cards are BEAUTIFUL.
I bought them after seeing the samples on aeclectic and don't regret it one bit. I'm actually looking to buy the Soul cards 2, and just combine it all into one big deck :)
To me, they're absolutely perfect for meditation reasons.
