View Full Version : My Dad

My dad is in the hospital in critical condition. He had cancer and has went through radiation and chemotherapy which the doctors believed would destroy his cancer (which was located in the lymphnodes beside his windpipe). He had his last treatment a week ago on monday. Well today (today is tuesday for me I haven't been to sleep yet) I stayed home from work to be with him and he was having a bit of a hard time breathing, which wasn't in and of itself unusual and the cancer doctor he saw said not to be concerned overly about it. But today was worse than it had been and so after my mom got off work we decided to take him to the emergency room, so my mom took him and I stayed here.

Well by the time she got there he wasn't doing good at all, his oxygen saturation, which should be in the upper nineties to 100% was around the 30% mark. They did a broncoscopy (sp?) and he has mucas the consistancy of rubber in his right lung and an infection. The mucas (sp?) is that way because of him being dehydrated and it was blocking off his right lung and causing it not to recieve any air what so ever. The doctor said it was the worst he'd ever seen. They got part of that out but some of it is just too together to come up through the bronchial tubes and so he doesn't know how they're going to get the rest of it out. He said it's too together for medicine to really effect it so he has absolutely no clue how they're going to get the rest of it out. However, what he's done has helped alot, and combined with putting my dad on a resperator has raised his oxygen saturation in his blood back into the nineties, and he's using his right lung again.

That's the easy stuff.

The infection, however, is not good. They're giving him antibiotic shots and stuff, but the doctor said that among chemo patients who get an infection the rate of fatality might be as high as fifty percent, and that my dad is very very sick.

So I'm asking you all for your positive energies, well wishes, prayers, or whatever. Thank you all and Blessed Be.

Blessings and best wishes. My thoughts are with you and your dad. I don't know what to say other than may the Goddess hold you all in her arms through this tough time, and her blessings on you and your family.

Today they concentrated on getting him rehydrated (slowly), getting his heart rate down (it was 150 beats a min, now it's down to 100 which is acceptable), and getting his blood sugar down. He's still unconscious and will be so for at least another 24 hours or so. The resperator is breathing for him, but his oxygen saturation is 100%. His right lung is working much better since they took some of that stuff out, but there's still alot of puss, pnuemonia, infection, and mucas inside of it so he's still got a ways to go, but they think the worst is behind him.

Thank you all so much, this means more to me and my family than you all can imagine.
