I am very interested in Asatru and Norse Heathenry and have begun researching as much as I am able. I am curious if anyone could tell me the best source for reading the Eddas. From what I understand, they are rather long and I am wondering if they are in a book with perhaps some explanation regarding them.

Thanks :)

okay, there are several links on that page. i personally recommend the thorpe translation for the poetic edda and the broedur translation of the prose edda.

Poetic Edda

Thorpe translation
http://www.northvegr.org/lore/poetic2/ (http://www.northvegr.org/lore/poetic2/)

Bellows translation
http://www.northvegr.org/lore/poetic/ (http://www.northvegr.org/lore/poetic/)

Cottle translation
http://www.northvegr.org/lore/poetic3/ (http://www.northvegr.org/lore/poetic3/)

The Hollander translation is not online as it is still copyrighted but you can find it any Barnes&Noble, Borders and the like. In all of them there footnotes explaining certain passages.

Prose Edda

Brodeur translation
http://www.northvegr.org/lore/prose/ (http://www.northvegr.org/lore/prose/)

Anderson translation
http://www.northvegr.org/lore/prose2/ (http://www.northvegr.org/lore/prose2/)

If you any other questions on this or anything else stop by the CoT heathenry section and I will be glad to assit you or you can PM me.

If you want to get a hard copy to take with you The Larrington translation of the Poetic Edda is good it has notes and name list in it, The Faulkes translation of the Prose Edda is also good this one contains text summaries.
