My grandma sent me a ton of stones, knowing that I love collecting them. Well she sent me these really beautiful blue stones, that at first glance look like something out of a fish tank. She doesn't know what it is (that's pretty bad, seeing as my uncles who live with her are jewelers), and I have no clue. I would like to believe that she knows the difference between fishtank stones and real ones. I took some low, horrible quality photos, I hope that you can atleast get the jest of what they look like.

Well some stones in fishtanks are real. Sodalite, picture stones, lava rocks, green and red slate and petrified wood are a few examples of what is put in fishtanks. Athough ,if you are refering to the gravel that would be a silcone type of rock that is usually coated with a paint. or if they are natural stones then they would be very small riverstones.
The picture seems a tad blurry, so it is kinda differicult for me to guess. Anyhow it seems clear or semi-transparent.
A few guesses offhad are that they could be polished aqua-aura stones which is a clear quartz crystal that was fused with gold to give it's blue hue. another one would be blue obsidian . Also it could be a blue apatite(spelling). I`m looking at them a second time and i`m noticing inclusions in them. Might even be a blue quartz. They don`t seem like glass to me.

Well they have what look like little bubbles in them when I'm looking at them face to face. I know that they're horrible quality/very blurry, but my camera isn't the greatest. It's very smooth and my biggest peice is pictured. It is very 'clear' as in, you can somewhat see through it, but mainly it's blocked by little air bubble type things. I've looked through my gemstone book (the one by Scott Cunningham), but it doesn't have one that looks slightly like it.
I'll try taking a better picture when the sun is out.

if there are actual bubbles(little spheres) in there then they are just blue glass stones for fishtanks. if there are inclusions(little flat cracks) then they are real stones. you have to examanine them.

i am pretty sure that it is what is called MAGIC STONE or as I call it Magic Elf Stone
It is a treated clear quartz from Brasil
the stone is first heat treated to resemble Iris-Quartz, looks like frectalized quartz
than it is dyed with Anylin (sp) a chemical dye the BASF in Germany got good reputation for (the A in BASF means Anylin) - a dye that is NON toxic for humans
after that teh stone is seale by using UV light
after hearing/reading the how this stone is made I was very sceptical about it becoming part of the stones I trade: so I got myself one of each colour first and mediatted with them
the result was extraordinary.
clear quartz is suitable for all chakras. the dying only determinded the chakra but did not take away the meditative support and other qualities of quartz. Thus now you have for all chakras (almost) a dedicated stone, very suitable for children work and to bring joy and hapiness back into your life
the magic stone comes basically in the following colours: (chakra)
purple (7), dark blue (6), pink (4), green (4), yellow (3), apricot-orange (2) red (1)
rarely you can also get light blue ones, almost tourquoise in colour (5)
and here is a picture

believe it or not i forgot about these type of stones. Although i didn`t know they were called magic stones or elf magic stones. I recall seeing them in a shop here as dyed stones. Thought they were worthless. Thanks for the info. you learn something new everyday. :bouncysmi
thanks Czechwoods.
also i found BASF stood orginially for Badische Anilin & Soda Fabrik. Now it's Baden Aniline & soda Manufacturing or just BASF.
