I read this statement someone posted in Just Talk, and I was compelled to flame them something serious:
Humans will eventually perish and the world will go on without them as it has in the past, inspite of our efforts to become immortal.
What do you guys think?

I don't know about you, but I'm sick of being immortal. ;)
Seriously though, when we are done with this planet, the cockroaches will have a buffet.

personally i find that statement true. I mean the planet survived before our exsistance. the planet will survive after "The Human Race" becomes exstinct.

I'm not sure that the humans are trying to be immortal, but I do believe that a lot of the humans think they can control nature. I believe one day some how the human race will end the Earth will recover.

I kind of agree with the sentiment as well, if it's taken into account that "eventually" is millions of years from now. Every species will die out eventually. Unless we evolve into a more advanced version of our species and transform rather than die out.

I believe the fact that people need to question whether we'll be around forever is silly - who the heck are we to know what will happen in the future? Uhm did crocs and turtles become extinct in the billions of years they've been around?

My parents were here before me.
By your logic, they should persist after I am gone.
But that's not the case, is it now?

Not really, since we have members here who claim to have lived past lives in the future... why shouldn't we explore and speculate the posiblities that lie before, and not just behind?
What I'm questioning in this thread is the unspoken assumption that mankind is going to die out soon.

That's what I meant. All diviners know that when we see a future it is a possible future that can be changed, so who are we to assume we see the absolute future of our race becoming extinct? To me it's just an unnecessary presumption - it's one thing to say "yeah I think we'll nuke eachother off the earth" and another to just assume we're all just going to be extinct at some point.

I believe it is certainly ONE possibility that the world will end. Many planets have died out, that might have, at one point, supported life. Who knows? It's a possibility. But..I don't see anything as being unpreventable, or Definate, as far as that goes. I do think that the human race will certainly evolve in the next few hundreds, or thousands of years. We've SEEN proof of that...so...dont' know..

Well I set my keyboard to "stun" when I'm on MW. Which means I can wound, but I'm not allowed to go in for the kill :( ... something about community rules or something, I don't know! I miss the old days when I didn't know / didn't care about the rules.
Anyway, my intention was never to devastate what's her name, it was to devastate her faulty argument... people take things so personally around here. I wouldn't attack people if they didn't keep posing stupid things!!!

I *really* wish people who thought they were being attacked would follow the MW rules and PM a mod or an admin instead of continuing to converse about it in threads.
Yes it is certainly one possibility, among thousands, but I guess we don't know 'till we get there :)

What will come will come I say. Especially about this, I mean do we all want to sit down and constantly think that we are going to die? I mean it is good to think about every now and then, but nothing to obsess over because it is an answer you will never know until it comes.

This is a violation of Rule #6, Harrasment. NO one is permitted and has no right to attack a member in a thread or PM, directly or indirectly. If this persists this thread will be closed and I will contact an adminstrator.
I am sorry you feel this way, but you do not dictate what can and can't be posted inside this Messageboard, if you find the posts medicore and not worth your time, I ask please keep it yourself and do not demean them for their so-called stupidity. I want this board to be a happy place, and I am sure as does every other member. The last thing we need is conflict. If people take things personally, PLEASE as Myst says PM a moderator and solve it with them, and do not argue about it in the thread. We would like it to stay on Topic. Thank you for reading...

I'm not terribly worried about the human race dying off. If it happens in the next 90 years well.. I'll be dead and won't care much. If it happens long after I've died from some other reason.. well.. I'll be dead and I won't care much. So I guess I'm pretty comfortable with the idea.

The human race becoming extinct? I doubt it. Right now, it just keeps growing and growing and growing. People are living longer; we're advanced in medicine, technology, science, etc. If that were even a possibility, I think it would've happened in the dark ages. I suppose the possibility of some huge nuclear destruction killing off all living things could make humans extinct, but then the planet wouldn't be doing so hot either. Er, maybe it *would* be hot. Heh heh.
I'm surprised at how many people just assume that humans will eventually become extinct. Why do you all think that? Is it just one of those ideas that you've been taught your whole life so you just figure it will happen? I'm not trying to be a smart-@ss, I'm seriously wondering.
I think humans have been dealt some pretty nasty illnesses, diseases, natural disasters, etc., and in the end, we've over-come all of them. I can only imagine that we'll just continue to keep growing in population and living longer.
As far as humans trying to be immortal - I don't think there are too many who really want that. I suppose some weird ones may, but I think for the most part we just want to live healthy lives for as long as we're here. You know, instead of growing old and achey and full of health problems, I'd rather grow old and feel good and have decent health until my day comes to depart this life. I think there's a difference between trying to save or prolong a person's life and wanting to be immortal.
Oh, and about the earth - if humans *were* to ever cease existing on this planet, yeah, I'm sure the earth could continue without us. Probably much better and easier if we weren't here mucking up it's natural cycles.

I completely agree with you, but you never know what can happen...;) ANything is possible good or bad, I would liek to think good but, but I have to acknowledge the bad in order to create stablilty. Although I do think the human race will prevail, There may be a time when we become extinct. But I know that time, isnt for a LONG while... But what if that long while is tommorow? lol

First Off
I tend to agree with Illuminatus. People get a bit oversensitive about things these days. I am really sick and tired of the whole Political Correct thing...it's gone on long enough, it has accomplished what it set out to do, bring an awareness of others feelings and thoughts. But anymore, it seems to be going over the edge. All of the sudden I say "I think it might rain today" and someone gets offended...people need to chill....
Second Off
I truly think that at some point and time, human life will cease to exist and someting bigger and smarter will take over the planet. The human race has evolved of the last few millenia into homosapiens...who's to say that this form we now hold won't evolve further. Who's to say that we don't nuke the hell out of Afghanistan and then China nukes the hell out of us and it cascades into nuclear war and we kill ourselves off tomorrow...
Eventually human life as we know it will end and something will replace it, be it a newer improved version of humans or something totally different. The fact remains, everything changes and nothing is constant...
Just my 2 cents worth

1st off: No one would get offended at a saying like that, everyone has a reason to be offended, whether it be wrong or right. They need to speak to the person in a PM, and not in a thread. Okay back OT no more talk of this please.

First off you agreed not to go out of your way to offend someone, and the is what Ill. did by stating things about stupid people ... The rules are very clear about attacks, and I doubt Mol, Semele, Kaylara, Eaglewolf, the administrators, and the mods of this forum really care why someone break the rules. If someone breaks the rules, they get moderated, end of story. Why doesn't matter. I could say I killed someone, but it was only because they killed someone else. Does that make either right?
People may be oversensitive ... or you may just not give a crap about what people say ... its not right to be mean to someone because they are emotionally less equipped to deal with attacks.
Second off ... the death of out planet is inevitable. The sun will eventually bake us to death, or something will hit the planet ... however, whether people will be able to escape or not is extremely debatable. I doubt they will, and if they do, i doubt they'll find a habitable place to live. Mars wouldn't work ... if we're baked, they're getting cooked tomarrow.
2 cents worth.
