I am not sure where to post it, so I'll post it here.
I wear a Thor's Hammer Pendent, however lately my pendent is making black marks on my clothes! I've tried cleaning the pendent, I've even used some special cleaning cloth made for jewerly that's supposed to remove dirt and tarish and while it does seem to make my pendent shinier and removes a lot of black stuff, but I must be doing something wrong because it continues to make back marks on my clothes. How is my pendent getting so dirter and what can I do to stop it from making black marks on my clothes? Any suggestions? :hmmmmm:

You might try simply puting a layer of tape on the back of the pendant... or you may want to stop wearing it. I find that tooth paste usually does the trick on metal if you want to try just using an old toothbrush and some toothpaste to clean it up.

I'd strongly advise you to keep wearing it. If you have cleaned it multiple times, scrubbed it, etc. Then maybe it is not the fact that it is getting dirty on something but that, it is protecting you from something and the black marks are from the darkness it is protecting you from?
Just a thought.

Are you sure its the pendent and not the necklace leaving the marks? I had a necklace do that, it had a cheap black leather band that started doing that after awhile. I used to leave it on in the shower, it got all ratty and started falling apart then it started to leave those marks on my shirts especially in the back.

Paint it with clear nail polish. That will keep it from tarnishing and smudging your clothes.

That's what I was thinking. :)
You could always just paint the back.

Excellent suggestion! I was going to suggest a thin coat of poly. You might try just sitting the pendant aside on a cloth for a little bit and see if it darkens up just resting. If so, sounds like oxidation of some sort and a sealer is about the only hope.

I like my Thor's hammer too much to stop wearing it. I don't think it would look good with tape on the back because it's not a plain hammer, it has knots and rune designs on it, so if I did tape it the tape wouldn't be flat. And I've used toothpaste to clean it, as well as cleaners made specially for cleaning jewelry, which is why it baffles me so much that it keeps getting black stuff on it.

Interesting. I hadn't thought of that.

Yeah I'm sure it's the pendant because the necklace part is a steal chain.

That sounds like a good idea! I might try that. Thank you.

I would try the clear nail polish or maybe even putting a felt backing on the back of it.You could glue the backing .

nail poish or a coat of polyurethane should stop it from marking you like that.
