he's 14 months old. He stands, takes a couple steps, then jumps down and crawls. He'll hold my hand and walk, he has one of those little walker thingies that they push along...he'll walk with that all day long...everyone around me brags about their kid walking at 7 or 8 months...is there something wrong with him? Or am I just being paranoid?

Hmm, well, it is taking him longer than average, but that doesnt mean there is necessarily anything wrong with him....have you been to a doc recently? Just to check out his large motor skills and make sure his legs are developing regularly and everything? If they say his muscle development, etc., is normal, i would just chalk it up to his doing things at his own pace. My daughter didn't walk til 13 months. But on the other hand, was talking at 7 months...which is pretty early, different kids develop different things at different paces, and times....so if it isn't a physical issue, I wouldn't worry!

I know you'll hear this from lots of people.......don't worry. Kids develope at their own pace. ;) We were worried about my son talking.

Your son is fine. If he can push a toy around and take a few steps on his own he has the ability to do it all. No worries. Just give him time and ignore the stats.

I think the statistics are later than a year anyway - he is likely fine. I have heard doctors dont even consider it an issue till 18 mths and even then it probably is within the range of normal, just worth keeping tabs on. My first walked at nine months, but my third and last not till 15 mths.

I wouldn't worry hon.
My daughter was about 15 months before she walked, and my son was 11 months.
They all develop differently :)

oh thanks everyone...you've made me feel tons better. At his 12 month Baby Visit, they said everything was good....guess he's just stubborn..lol

 My youngest was stubborn. He didn't start walking until 19 months. He would furniture stroll and crawl like he had a bee in his diaper, but didn't want to walk. When he did start walking...

day 1: practiced straight lines over and over again.
day 2: worked on turning around standing up.
day 3: he was working on running full speed around the house.

No there's nothing wrong with your son at all. :hugz: What you are doing is the right thing, by letting him use a baby walker and holding his hand your giving him a chance to build up his muscles and cordination.

Most parents that brag about how early they got thier kids to walk it's because they've forced them before they were ready to walk. In the end the kids end up with bowed legs and other problems with joints in the knees and feet.

ya know, you are exactly right too...my sis-in-law and brother's 2 girls walked very early and their legs were both bowed really bad...thank Gods they grew out of it though!

Does he wear shoes? My youngest started walking at 12 or 13 months, but he walked on his tiptoes all the time. The first time he tried to walk with shoes on, he kept falling over. :toofless:

Don't worry too much. I took a very long time to walk, not because I couldn't, but because I prefered to crawl.

My mother walked very early though, and ended up with bowed legs.
