So I took a few quizes, cheesey I know, but they all came back as Old English Heathenry, Asatru, or Norse Pagan.

I looked up some info on the net...I kinda like Asatru but it seems very ethno-centric and borderline racist sometimes. Maybe it was just the sights I found, I don't know. Anyone have some better links maybe? I like the idea of Asatru and would very much like to be proven wrong.

You most likely ran across folkish sites, which can come off that way and it can be a very ethno-centric. it is a folk religion after all(I know not everyone will agree on this)

Here is a nice diverse list of links Friggas Web (http://www.friggasweb.org/fwlinks.html)

Bad nineteenth-century etymology associated Loki with Logi (fire) and, helped along by Wagner, the image of Loki as a fire-being seems to be with us to stay. Modern thought also associates Loki especially with computers, for a number of reasons.

I found that on this page... http://www.thetroth.org/ourfaith/gods.html (http://www.thetroth.org/ourfaith/gods.html)

Its interesting because I've been curious about Loki lately after reading some of the links...I am a network administrator so the connection to Loki and computers intrigues me...in an incredibly geeky/nerd kinda way.

But if Asatru is concerned with venerating or emulating the Aesir and Vanir, can Loki be venerated as well? He is from what I can tell not a member of either tribe(?) of gods...In fact I believe one sorce refered to him as an Ettin or elemental...or something like that...

Loki is a Giant (jotun, etin, thurs, depending on dialect) that was 'adopted' into kinship by the Aesir, until he was outlawed, tied to a rock by his own son's entrails, & had a serpent placed over him to drip acid-like poison onto him. After that, he leads the attack on Asgard at Ragnarok.

Not necessarily, he was blood-brother to Odin and was a frequent companion of Thor's on his many journeys and was also starting all kinds of mischief, some harmless some not so harmless. It was however a natural progression in the severity of his acts which led to him being fettered after the death of Baldr.

That looks like an awesome link Silent. Wish I spoke the language, although I guess that could be remedied with some study. The english version is nice from what I can tell, some of the links take you to places in the native language though.

Here's my favorite Asatru site: www.asatru.org (www.asatru.org)

You know, there's nothing wrong with being a bit "ethno-centric", and it's possible to be proud of who you are without being a racist. I will admit, however, that to someone who's new to Asatru, or maybe even someone who's been Tru for a while, the AFA stuff might come off as a little racist. Here it is if you wnat to see it: www.runestone.org (www.runestone.org)

Yeah...I'm getting that the more I read about it.

Its a really fine line to walk and one thats easily mis-interpreted from an outsiders perspective. For the most part I haven't been reading much by the AFA, although I noticed they have alot of books on their site...are they worth picking up?

Malcolm, here are some book recommendations from my kindred and another one we are close with. I wanna ask you if you know of any heathens in your area and if you have met any. If you have any questions shoot me a PM.

Not that I know of, but that doesn't mean they aren't there. Honestly I'm not sure I will end up in heathenry but I am interested and willing to research it more.

thats a long list...guess I'll be busy for awhile.
