Some people prefer to differentiate between the mundane magic, such as magic shows and the like, to that of magick that is done in Paganism.

I hope that makes sense.

Some people prefer to spell it with the terminal "k" to differentiate stage tricks from the "Science and Art of causing change to occur in conformity with the Will." While others might still define magic the same way, they prefer not to use the "k" for various reasons. For instance, they think it's silly or unnecessary or they wish to distance themselves from Crowley. Nevertheless, if you're seeing magic and magick in books about Paganism and Witchcraft, it's probably safe to assume they're talking about the same thing.

In summary, it's pretty much like this:

Magick- real, spiritual, causes a difference in path of destiny

Magic- Parlor tricks with no actual power...

Also, you might be interested to know that Alester Crowley was probably the first person to use this spelling. He not only used it to differentiate High Magick from parlor tricks, but the germantia (sp?) or numerology works in some mystical way when it is spelled with the k.

If you look at the root of the word Magic(k)...they both have the same backgrounds...magic with a c may now be looked at as mere parlour tricks, but I read in various sources that the root word of Magic is the greek Magi, which refers to the Persian priests of Zoroaster, and it means 'knowledgeable, learned" or around those lines...I believe, if my sources are correct...so either which way should they not mean the same thing? magick with a K and magic with a C...? You can use either spelling My friend uses magic and I use magick. I do it for the sole reason that I rp a lot and watch a lot of magical shows like charmed. So when I write in my diary I need to differentiate and always put a K on the end. I never read a book where the author did this till much later on in my studies which just seemed to confirm that there was no harm in either spelling.
