Naming bos

Ok,now I am starting my bos.And I want to make one book with just everything and another one with just spells and things like that.What I was wondering do you ever name your book something else that book of shadows or grimoire.I want to make the books in my language and it does not sound right in icelandic Book of shadows-bók skugganna and grimoire-no word for that.I have some other in mind,but is it ok to name it something else.I also was thinking to name them something like Skinna.As Rauđskinnna is considered one of the most famous and greatest witchcraft books of all time,and it was icelandic and is buried at Hólum í Hjaltadal and also Gráskinna(you can read about it here http://www.simnet.is/gardarj/folk/loftur.htm (http://www.simnet.is/gardarj/folk/loftur.htm) but anyway I was thinking something in the honour of these books.

And I have another question.When you call to the guirdians of the watchtower.Is it ok for me to call to the guirdians of Iceland,the 4 corners of iceland you can read about it here http://www.simnet.is/gardarj/folk/guard.htm (http://www.simnet.is/gardarj/folk/guard.htm) . They are the main part if the The Seal of Iceland.And I feel much more stronger connection to them than the Guardians of the watchtower.Is it ok???

I vote for Rauđskinnna - I've heard of it and like the name and the story.

Fróđa-grimoire Wise or knowledge
Sćmundur Fróđi-grimoire.a man that once was the wisest of all in iceland.He was up on 1056-1133 a.c .He was a priest that studied at Blackschool in france,school that was supposeedly teaching that dark magic and the devil was the headmaster.Allthough that is doubted sćmundur fróđi was real.

To an extent your book of shadows is your bible. And to another extent we are gods. It's all in perception. Though I can understand your point Silent.

Of course then again my usual reply whenever I hear someone say "Oh God" is "Yes, my child?" so maybe I'm not the best person to comment on if something is sacreligious or not.

Well I was just trying to make a point-exspalin what I meant.It sometimes get difficult cuz I dont find the right word in english what I want to say in icelandic:)I have certain humbility towards these books

i'm still pondering on a name for my book(s). right now i have just a bunch of binders, but i want to make them look nice, i just haven't decided on a name yet. :rolleyes: i'm going through anglo-saxon, old high german, and even scottish dictionaries and i'm hoping at some point i'll come across a word that just rings right, kwim? so far i've found the anglo-saxon word ae-wealm which means spring. (water, not the season.) but just that is a bit short, so now i'm trying to learn some of the grammar so i can add a word onto it like spring of so-and-so. it's rather hard, learning a dead language with no live teachers around to explain things, i find. :hehehehe:
i think the skinna idea is very good, i'm going to look at that link now in a minute, it sounds very interesting. thanks for posting it. what do the prefixes mean though? for that matter what does skinna mean? or doesn't it mean anything?

i'm puzzled about the watchtower guardian thing, though. is that a wiccan ritual/belief? if it is, and if you are then, in fact wiccan, is it actually okay to just call your book of shadows something else? just curious, i don't know much about wicca. what do the icelandic wiccan authors call it?

i can understand that. so the link tells me the prefixes Rauđ and Grá are the colors red and grey. what would be the word for black, purple, or green skinna? :colorful:

Ahh you gave me an idea for a name for grimoire Uppspretta ţekkingar.Uppspretta means Fountain(but not the big one,but the kind in the mountains) or spring(water) and ţekking means knowlegde So the name could be in english Fountain of knowlegde as in icelandic Uppspretta ţekkingar.Or even Fountain of wisdom-Uppspretta visku:)

Oh yeh and skinna....the prefixes mean grey-skinn and red-skinn.They got their names from the colour and they were made from skin,I am not sure what kind.I think the direct translationa for skinna is skinned butit has been translated as greycover and redcover.

I have not fully understood what wicca actually stands for so I am hesitant to call my self that.And the iceland landvaettir os not the same as the guardians of the watchtower.They are the protectors of land and people.And I dont think it a wiccan thing,but not 100% sure.

It warys what people call the book of shadows and wicca here.book of shadows is usually just called by the english name or Bók skuggana and wicca well I have only heard wicca.

well, worshipping the landvaettir, or land wights as i call them, is just fine, as long as you're not calling it wicca. just my opinion. are there any asatru communities around where you live?
by the way, there are threads about land wights and huldvolk in the heathenry class of CoT. have you been there?

Oh yeh I forgot to mention spring(water) also means lind in icelandic as Viskulind-spring of wisdom....omg I am icelandic but my head is starting to spin from all the variations of icelandic.I can tell you all it is one of the most difficult language in the world.

Yes there is Ásatrú community here.The Ásatrúarfélagiđ.Ásatrú is legally aknowledged religios community here just like chatolics and other.

And they are not just bunch of ppl that all belief in asatru,they are much moe than that.
