 Hey Xentor

I was just checking out the MW photo album,
And saw your photos there.

I read the captions,
But I still have to ask two things.…
# 1 - What is it that they sell in the “Multi Zit Outlet Store”
# 2 - What on earth is “ Limburg Pie”

:)

1) "Zit" in Dutch means seat. "Zitten" = to sit. They sell sofas, couches and other furniture. Typical example of Dutch Engrish.

2) Limburg pie is a kind of pie... http://www.limburgsevlaai.nl/ (http://www.limburgsevlaai.nl/) It is a local delicacy. As large as a pizza, as thick as a fist. Usually a lot of dough with fruit, my favourite being a simple rice pie.

Apple pie recipe:

Unless you find a shop in your country, no, they can't be shipped across the world. Especially not into the USA. USA Customs doesn't allow any food products to cross the border.

Thank you both for taking the trouble and the time to post th recipes.
I looked them over ... hmmmmmmm ....

So correct me if I'm wrong here,
But basically Limburg Pies ... are just regular ( only deep dish ) Pies???

If they are ....
I'll tell you this,
For all the baking I do ...
I've NEVER had ANY Pie that I made,
Come out looking like the pies in the piccie link that Xentor posted.

They must not be that regular, then :)

There's a whole lot of different kinds. The Limburg provinces seem to be the only ones where this kind of pie is baked as it should be.

The north-east of Belgium :)

Which, in the east, borders the Dutch province of Limburg, where I currently live. That makes for 2 provinces: a Belgian one and a Dutch one. If my memory of history serves right, they once were one province, before Belgium and the Netherlands split.

Your memory is quite good then ;)
They were one until 1831, actually, officially in 1839, after the 12-day campaign, because of the independance of Belgium.

It's local to Limburg, not particular to either Belgium or the Netherlands.

*thinking about it*
Wow!!!

Seriously, This is a GREAT thread!!!
We’re getting lessons in Cultural Food,
Recipes
Geography
History
We’re learning some interesting “personal” info. About Xentor and Brenda
And for me personally … I got a little Photography lesson as well.

Thank you muchly Xentor and Brenda :hugz:

I’ve honestly learned some interesting things here, that I hate to admit I was clueless about before taking time to really check out the map.

It’s all led me to do some further “on line” research.
Wow … I was seriously clueless!!

Another thing,
Here … in the States, we are always getting this particular jewelry commercial, that continues to brag about it’s purchase of Antwerp diamonds.
I’ve never before had the slightest idea where “Antwerp” was.

*laughing*
I’ll bet that I’m not the only American who didn’t know where Antwerp is.
That makes me wonder if the jewelry company has any idea that their ad is ineffectual as far as impressing with “where” the diamonds come from.

Who would have thought such little things as a Multi Zit store, & Limburg Pie
would lead to so much!! :woot:
