HI everyone- I am about to begin a project to sculpt and cast some Altar tiles. I will do one with an eight pointed star, representing The Wheel of the Year, and one with a seven pointed star. The seven pointed star has been discribed to me variously as the Mystic's star, and the Fairy Star. I will most likely do a variation on each idea.
That will keep me busy through to the Solstice, and the I would like to have someother images ready.
Does anyone have any thoughts? Litha? Mol? Semele?

Maybe you should also do the normal pentagram, the goddess or god symbol or a sacred spiral or something...

This has gotten me to thinking about breaking out the camera again! :D

I was starting to paint a pentacle for my altar last year on a wooden disk that I had lying around. I ended up apinting something completely different that I just like for decorative purposes. There is a gold pentacle in the center, with various other religious symbols in between the points of the star (star of David, Christian cross, triskele, yin - yang, etc.). The outer border is black with the elements painted on as they are to me. A leaf for earth, a cloud for air, flames for fire (duh), and a mini ocean wave for water.

It was one of those things that you just keep going on but you don't know why until it's finished. It now represents my philosophy that no matter what your
god(s) are, they are all one, all the same, just many faces of the same god.

Sorry, I was just proud of it and had to brag. :p

I've seen it. It's gorgeous.

Hey, Dextra ~ I had a fuzzy logic circuit ... but I dropped it on the floor. *muwahahahaha!* :D

what a great creative drive you have dragonmother,
kudos to you (:

Howzbout an astrological altar pentacle tile?

I have a sun catcher sticker that is on my home office window that is a circle shape. Inside the shape itself there is a square drawn border and inside this border is a pentacle with a circle drawn around it.
In the middle of the pentacle is a Sun and in the spaces aroung the star points and inside the circle are the glyphs for 5 other planets, and the remaining 4 planetary glyphs are at the corners.

I hope this explanation can describe it's appearance, as it's too large to scan.

Nice idea!
Dragonsong, the reason I didn't want to do a normal five-sided pentacle tile is that there aremany beautiful ones out there already. For my research I just wandered around on the web, you know... I found one site that had seven and nine, baphomet, and Soloman's seal, but they weren't visually satisfying- to me at least well, I don't know how long this will take, but I will let you all know when I have something to see!

The Encircled Cross, (equal armed cross in a circle) is a very ancient symbol, and one that is described as being "Universal". It is said to be valid throughout creation and embraces all energy patterns and all thinking. and that as all geometric shapes are born out of the division of the circle, all other universal symbols are to be found within the Encircled Cross.

Sounds pretty powerful, eh!

Maybe the ecircled cross, in the center of the eightpointed star? I've always heard it called the Solar Cross, so it would be so appropriate.

Dragonmother have you looked at the Wheel of Fortune in tarot? ~ the one posted in the Tarot area by Mol has symbols for all the seasons and would be quite nice with your other ideas I think :)
