Some home pregnancy tests are accurate at one week after your first missed period. Few Days late doesn't count as a "missed" period though. I would wait five days, and then take one. If you buy the over the counter pregnancy tests, they usually tell you on the back of the packages, how soon they are accurate. I believe EPT brand to be the most accurate the earliest.
If you don't mind me asking...what other methods of birth control were you using?
Remember, changes in birthcontrol pill cycles can throw off your menstrual cycle. Most birthcontrol pills regulate your menstrual cycle, so that it comes at the same time almost every month. A change in the level of hormones due to a "Stopping" of the pill, or even some missed pills, may contribute to a late period. I wouldn't worry right away, unless you have reason to.
Such as a broken condom..etc.

This Q & A post, from a pregnancy site, is written by a doctor, and addresses your question, as to how soon you can know if you are pregnant.
Question:
How soon after conception could someone find out if they're pregnant?
Answer:
Pregnancy tests measure levels of a hormone called hCG (human Chorionic Gonadotropin) which is made by the placenta and serves, among other things, to keep the body from rejecting the new pregnancy. The home pregnancy tests look for this hormone in your urine and are fairly accurate these days. Most can tell if you are pregnant by 14 days after conception, which is right around the time you would be due for your next menses.
In the office, we can test for the presence of hCG either with a slightly more elaborate urine test that is generally accurate to seven to 10 days after conception, or with a blood test that is virtually 100% accurate at seven days after conception and which has a much lower risk of a false-negative test.
