I'm wondering what exactly stone circles were (maybe still are) used for. And, what was the type of stones, espeically in the inner ring of stonehenge?

Also, is it viewed that all animals have spirits and maybe special attirbutes? Are familiars used in druidy, and if so what exactly are famiiars? i know they're animals and I think messengers but not sure.

thanks for help.

You asked so here is the English Heritage site on the site (Stonehenge).

Stonehenge (http://www.english-heritage.org.uk/server/show/nav.876)

Animals? mmmmm tasty. As for me, to have a familiar is more a Wiccan thing although I do get on well with crows.

animal companions where not uncommon among the druids however i view myself more as nature's keeper as well as the animals inhabited there in. wouldnt go so far to say a familiar. a stone circle if you have the space and means marks the boundaries of your sacred circle outside. it can be fun to build on a small scale.. my brethren and sisters im sure can give you plenty of information on the inner circle of stone henge. as far as animal meanings.. look up in shamanism. and celtic shamanism. druidism has some roots in shamanism.

You might want to check out a good book on Stonehenge by John North, he tracks the way that barrows and henge monuments evolved and the whole thing around stellar and solar/lunar alignments.

Celtic folklore will give you many references to the special attributes of animals
