I was inspired to post this after reading through some of the replies I got from my post < http://www.mysticwicks.com/showthread.php?t=89000 (http://www.mysticwicks.com/showthread.php?t=89000) > And because of all the discussions we have been having about magick.
Surprisingly, when I first started out on my current spiritual path, I didn’t intend on having anything to do with magick at all. In fact, it was my friend Gareth who started me down this particular path. A businessman and dabbler in the occult, I found out about his interest in magick and psychic powers after we had a few beers at the local pub. His belief was that everyone had the ability to be psychic. Well, I said to him that it was complete nonsense. At that time, I was a huge skeptic and spent a lot of my time debunking local mediums and fortune-tellers.
Well, Gareth challenged me to read his mind and tell him the identities of 3 important people who played a major role in shaping his character. When I heard it, I was like…. “Get outta here!”
However, as it is my belief that a person shouldn’t hide from the truth, even if it means changing his own worldview based upon evidence that he comes across, I took his challenge seriously. I closed my eyes and just said the first thing that popped into my mind. Well, I saw the images of 3 people and described them to Gareth. Surprisingly, ALL of them turned out to be real people who at one time or the other, did or said something to mold his life and worldview.
It wasn’t a fancy reading or anything with cards, or pendulums or crystal balls, but I couldn’t deny the fact that there was something there. Hoping to find more concrete evidence to support or debunk the reality of psychic power in humans, I went around the city reading random strangers. Everyone from government clerks, insurance salesmen, passerby and customers at various cafes using the same method that I had used before on Gareth. Although the results weren’t spectacular, I was right only 50- 60% of the time, it was a lot higher than the percentage derived from pure chance (30 – 35%). That meant psychic abilities didn’t just exist as pure imagination in the minds of the psychics and their customers.
I started reading up on what various researchers had found out about psychic powers and intuition. I also did my own tests with friends and joined a group of psychics and occultists that meet weekly. I did this expecting to be disappointed by what I would discover, but as time went by, the unexplained started popping up in my life.
After a few weeks of observation, research and reading people, I started developing terrible migraines that weren’t normal for me, because I almost never get migraines. I took painkillers and it really became a problem at that point in time because I had to take increasing dosages to feel the effects of it kicking in. Finally, I decided to ask around about alternative therapies for curing migraines. Well, one psychic mentioned to me that when the psychic abilities of certain people start to open up, they develop migraines and this usually goes away over a period of time or when they take up a stress-relieving activity like meditation.
Well, in order to find a solution to my migraines, I went to every single meditation and healing group that was in town. Eventually, I found my current instructor and mentor and started learning meditation for health reasons. My migraines quickly disappeared and on the whole my own life started to improve. I didn’t learn any magick or psychic stuff from my instructor because the classes deal purely with meditation for health and spiritual advancement (ie. Karma, ascension, etc.)
However, as I progressed down the path I had chosen, I started getting visions while meditating. I saw images of things happening to my friends and total strangers and even snippets from my past lives. I started having very vivid dreams where I found myself in a past life, going through entire lifetimes, even though I was only asleep for a few hours.
When I got back a few lifetime’s worth of memories, another interesting thing happened. I started remembering how to do magick and what it was all about. Here’s how I sometimes remember them. For instance, whenever someone in this forum talks about casting a circle or cursing someone, images will flood into my mind about how to work a spell to achieve a desired effect. It is almost like I have never forgotten it. Once, I counted 5 different ways to enact a simple curse using various objects of focus like poppets, candles, stones, circle casting and blood.
At first, it was bad because the images kept popping up even though I was determined NOT to remember any of them. I guess from what I can remember, I wasn’t really an angel in some of my lifetimes.
Thankfully, there were some good moments as well. One time, while waiting for a taxi-cab along a very very busy road, I wondered if it were at all possible to make cabs come to me whenever I wanted. Well, a memory popped into my head that instant about making carriages come to me and I thought, “What the heck, if the magick I remember is as REAL as all that, it will work, no matter the situation.”
I tried out the method and guess what, a cab stopped right in front of me despite having tons of people competing for cabs standing along the curb. I tried this method whenever I get stuck in a long queue (more than 7 people). Oddly enough, the cabs came so fast, one lady (a complete stranger) who was standing in front of me even went to the extent of saying, “…you sure must be lucky… the cabs came when you did.”
I think the most spectacular result I had so far was when I was waiting for a cab with my sis. We were out on what is the equivalent of a country road and the only taxi-cabs that came along either had passengers or were called from the city by people who worked at a nearby high-tech installation.
Feeling exhausted because of the heat, I asked my sis what kind of a cab she wanted. She said, “Well, I think a white-coloured one.”
“Well,” I said. “Don’t blink, but a white-coloured cab will arrive at this destination in exactly one minute.”
Oddly enough, in the space of a minute, a white-coloured taxi-cab came down the road and stopped in front of us. My sis was so shocked, she said, “How did you do it?!”
In order to avoid telling her the truth, I peppered my explanation with many needless details. Well, my sis always had a short attention span, so in no time, she completely lost interest in the rather dry topic that included an explanation about the universe and energy molecules. :D
Since then I have been testing this spell, making records about each test. The success rate is about 80%. Which is not too bad. I’m still testing this spell and a few others as well.
It is my belief that if my magick truly has substance, it SHOULD work in the REAL WORLD. I simply don’t buy into the reasoning that my friend Wendell keeps saying: “(That) Most magick consists of a form of psychological morale boosting or that it is completely spiritual and the effects are only seen on the ethereal or astral level.”
For me at least, there exists no separation between the mundane and the spiritual/magickal. It is only that people either forget that magick exists or don’t believe that it does.
So why give accounts of magick that works? Why make records of when it works? Well, personally, I want to find out whether what I remember is indeed real, because it affects my complete worldview. See, if something isn’t real, I won’t spend another second holding onto that belief and drop it completely.
PS: Why taxi-cabs? It is quantifiable and something that ... in my country.... you ironically can't really get when you really need one. Heh.
