anyone have a pet with bad hips?

im so worried.. my doggie chubs is a mutt dog, basset hound/australian sheperd mix along with prolly a lot more.. and his hips have been bothering him horribly.. and he's only 4 years old! im so worried that we are going to have to put him to sleep.. that is what my mom thinks we will have to do soon. and we cant afford to take him to the vet to have anything else done... :( im so sad. is there anything we can do for him? ...i dont want to have him put to sleep...

Awww, poor doggie. 4 is very young for him to have hip problems, do you know whats causing it?You can give dogs asprin, but you have to be very careful to give the right dose. Do you have an "ask a vet" phone number in your area? Or you could try looking for an "ask a vet" site online, I know there are some. Good luck, I hope your dog recovers.

asprin? thanks so much for the suggestion! i really really appreciate it... i will be so heart broken if we have to put him to sleep :( i dono why.. i think its just because of the basset hound in him.. they tend to have bad hip problems. thanks so much though.. i will ask my mom about it.
