Is it a kitten? When we got our kitten a couple of months, she didn't go the first day or so, so I gave her some milk and that took care of the problem.

Give your cat a teaspoon of oil (olive or other) and eilther mix it in their food or let them lick it from the spoon with every meal. I've done that with each of my animals when they got constipated and it worked every time. :toofless:

I can understand the kitty not going #2 because of being constipated. Is it a kitten? My mom suggested giving cat's milk; she said it acted as a laxative for her cats.

The not peeing would worry me though. One of our cats had Feline Lower Urinary Tract Disease last year and he really scared us. He couldn't pee, and what little bit came out was just leaking from his bladder being so full. There was also blood in the urine. The vet had to push on his bladder to make him pee on the table and the poor little guy just howled in pain. IT broke my heart. I literally broke down in tears in the vets office. He was a very sick kitty and he was on medicine for over a week. The vet still doesn't know what caused it.

Pay attention to how much the kitty eats or drinks. Maybe s/he is going outside the litterbox because they don't like the litter. I would still call the vet, though.

That's awful!! I really hope that person comes back as a mouse, or one of those little green lizards in their next life. We all know how cats like to catch those things and torture, I mean, play with them before they eat them!

For the life of me I cannot understand how people justify doing that to an animal.

hi- back again.

i think he just wanted to be respectful of my other cat's space. i tossed out all the litter, which was almost brand new, and replaced it. as soon as i did, he went a little. i'm just afraid holding it so long may have clogged the thing up, so i'll put some olive oil and metamucil in his food.

doctor said he isn't... he had a term... full either way, so i'm pretty optimistic.

How old is the kitty? Older cats can have a condition called Mega Colon which causes obstipation (like constipation only worse). Mega Colon cause the poops to be too big and difficult to pass. If it is a kitten though, this unlikely to be the problem.

If the kitty is a he, and is not peeing, he could be blocked. This is very common in male cats. Crystal form in the urine and block the urethra making it impossible to pee. These cats will try to pee but it is too painful so they will cry out while in the litter box.

Both of these conditions make kitties very sick so, if your kitty is in good health he may just be going somewhere that you haven't found yet.

If you've only had him for two days, then it could just be a settling in thing. Especially if there are other cats in the house that kitty isn't used to, he might take a while to relax into his new environment, and that can make them a bit constipated. If he went a little when you changed the litter, you could try getting an entirely new tray for the new kitty which won't have your other cat's smell on it or anything. He might be a bit more comfortable then. Some cats just don't like sharing.

i think you are right, seren, he just didn't want to share. i poured out all the litter, gave him some olive oil and food and everything straightened out.
