I think my cat just hurt himself

I just picked him up and he started screaming so I put him down and he is walking with a very obvious limp on his right back leg/foot and acting strange. His foot is clearly swollen and I'm not thinking this is a good thing.

Yes, it would be safe to assume your cat has injured himself. I'd get him to a vet ASAP.

Get him to a vet as soon as possible! Is he an out door cat? He could have an absess as a result of a fight with another cat. Or he could have broken a toe. Best to see a vet ASAP.

His foot is less swollen now but something weird happened to it and he's got a big red spot with raw flesh and seems to be able to walk better but it's pretty gross. Luckily it finally convinced my dad that he needs to see a vet as soon as possible instead of next weekend.

Sounds like an absess that ruptured. It definately needs to be treated. If it seals up without treatment, it will just keep filling up (with pus) and bursting.

The official word from the vet is that he most likely got in a fight and got an infection, although he didn't have any marks until he blew up so that is kind of weird. He's got to take 1 ml of antibotics twice a day until the bottle runs out now and he doesn't seem to mind taking them with canned cat food so everything should be alright. They also said there is a small chance it's a tumor but I'm hoping that's not the case.
