    Free (and legal) E-books!

There was another thread but it was locked because it linked to copyrighted texts. So I thought I';d start a new thread and do it right this time by ensuring that the links are legal. How can they be legal? Because the texts are so old that the copyrights have expired. Well anyway, here are some links to ebooks I have bookmarked, feel free to add more:

    http://www.bibliomania.com/

http://www2.hn.psu.edu/faculty/jmanis/jimspdf.htm <--- this is good because the texts are in pdf format and so are easy to read.

http://www.gutenberg.org/ <--- the largest and probably most well known free etext site online.

    http://www.blackmask.com/

    http://vos.ucsb.edu/

And last but not least, there is Wikibooks!

http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Main_Page <---- This is actually new texts which are free to distribute and edit under the terms of the GNU Free Documentation License.

    Got any more sites?

"If someone gets into your house, which would you rather have, a handgun or a telephone? You can call the police if you want, and they'll get there, and they'll take a picture of your dead body. But they can't get there in time to save your life. The first line of defense is you." ~ Tom Palmer

"It's not an endlessly expanding list of rights – the "right" to education, the "right" to health care, the "right" to food and housing. That's not freedom, that's dependency. Those aren't rights, those are the rations of slavery – hay and a barn for human cattle." ~ Alexis De Tocquiville

Yeah, maybe the mods could merge this thread with the other one or something as it's already quite long and Sticky.

A MysticWicks author has made some of her work available as free ebooks (PDF) for download:

Animal Totems of the Four Directions is an introductory guide to animals that may represent and teach you the lessons of each of the four cardinal directions. It's not meant to be a dogmatic text that gives you all the answers; rather, it's a way to give you some ideas and possibilities, and to help you think in different directions (no pun intended) about work with totems. http://www.thegreenwolf.com/totembooklet.html has more info and the free download (.pdf).

Feel free to pass it on, too. All I ask is that it's reproduced in its complete form.

    Thanks
Be sure to check her stuff out!

Thanks, Ben I didn't want to multi-post all over the place.

    (That sounds messy, anyway.)

    Wowio freebooks!

http://www.wowio.com Wowio - free books, free minds

This is a new free ebook service available only to U.S. residents for now, but the more people who sign up, the more it will be made available to others.

The theory behind this particular service is that these books are already being paid for by corporations, and we readers are reaping the benefits. The publishers and authors get paid, and we can download three full books a day.

The selections aren't as wide as they could be yet, but I think that's due to current I.P. and copyright laws. I'm encouraging everyone I know to sign up because its one of the best free ebook sites I've seen and I think it's a real bonzer idea.

http://www.wowio.com - No joke, good stuff. Everything from The Early Works of Dr Seuss to Thomas Aquinas' "On Evil," and comics in between.

Here's another website that provides free and legal e-books in a variety of formats (PDF as well as for all sorts of different readers.)

    http://manybooks.net/

Try using the Search feature there to find books on topics that interest you! I found a few on witchcraft that were good.

It is a wonderful idea and I can't wait until sign-up extends to Canada etc.

I meant to say this earlier, but I guess I forgot, but thanks for that link, I found some cool PDFs on there, one on Yoga and psychic powers (which seems quite good, I think it's based on Hindu occultism), and a few on Buddhism, and others.

Thanks again for providing that site .

Most of these legal free books are of no use to normal people...
