    Identifying Stones

Don't know what kind of stone you have?

Well Then you're in the right thread. This thread is so people can ask others to help them identify there stones. Also maybe we can learn a few keys to Identifying some of the different stones and crystals out there.

Also if you need help identifying a stone, it is best to try and post a pic of it and a description as well. Not all pics will pick up luster and other properties.

    Some questions to ask:

Is the stone heavy or light?
    Is it metallic?
What kind of texture does it have? (might be hard to answer with polished stones)
What color, or colors does it appear to be?
Is there anything unusual about it?
Does it have any patterns? (lines, spots, ect.)

I will try to list some links that will help you identify some of the stones and maybe some other keys.

Is it heavy or magnetic? Sounds like it might be hematite but it could be other things too.

I remember the name Hematite. That's most likely what it is.

Hmm....it's mildly magnetic....not enough to stick to one of my actual magnets, but I can feel a tug. This piece weighs about as much as two quarters.
