It seems some folks confuse "secrets" with Mysteries.
    The Mysteries aren't secret.
They are there for whoever wishes to seek them out.
    There just aren't any shortcuts.

    That's the Secret.

Don't ask Life to polish you into a jewel and then complain about all the rough treatment!

If you're talking shit behind my back - then you're close enough to kiss my ass.

Religion is a private affair. Even if you practice it with a group, ultimately, it should be about your connection to and faith in whatever you perceive as divinity. Everything else is just trappings, and although you can do well to learn from people with more experience (same as in life in general), ultimately the only way you can get it wrong is if the trappings start to become a higher priority than the faith.

As far as actual advice, from watching both new and experienced pagans and how they interact and learn:

    "Ears open, mouth shut."

Listen more than you talk. Don't try to prove how smart you are or one-up every statement that someone makes. Don't be afraid to ask questions when there's something you don't understand, but don't just sit there and yap to impress everybody.

Don't worry about what everyone else is doing. Just go outside, sit down, and she'll let you know what to do. When she does tell you, listen.
10 years later and this place has grown up so much....and I still haven't hit 2000 posts yet!

    I have two:

    Follow your intuition.

Be honest with yourself. (Meaning, acknowledge your limitations.)
"If being sane means thinking that there is something wrong with being different, I'd rather be completely freaking mental."

"Never be bullied into silence. Never allow yourself to be made a victim. Accept no one's definition
    of your life; define yourself."

This might count as two, but I thought of them as intertwined...

You already know, in your heart, the right way for you to believe and worship in a spiritual sense. That doesn't mean you can't learn new things and try new things... but when you try something new, you are the only one who can tell you whether it worked or not, not anybody else, no matter how much age and experience they have or claim to have, no matter how many books they've written, no matter how much respect in the community they have. That said, everybody else also has that ability, so don't believe the lie that if somebody doesn't do things a certain way they are "invalid," "fake," "not a real witch" (if applicable), or otherwise spiritually wrong.
