I was never very good with bows but I'm a fair shot with throwing knives.
So tie me to a post and block my ears
I can see widows and orphans through my tears
I know my call despite my faults
    And despite my growing fears

But I will hold on hope
And I won't let you choke
On the noose around your neck

And I'll find strength in pain
And I will change my ways
I'll know my name as it's called again

We have a 6 foot wooden fence with neighbor's dogs on the other side. After I sent one arrow through the haystacks and the fence itself, I decided I did not want to risk injuring a dog... or bringing a lawsuit on myself.

And to Thunder, the real Thunder, hey handsome. Got any brothers? :hehehehe:

I used to play around with those too. Since trees are the only real target I have around here, I gave it up.

I am an archer. When I was a kid my Dad taught me how to shoot with a recurve. I used a recurve for the longest time. When I moved into competition for a bit, I changed over to a compound but there is nothing like the feeling of letting lose an arrow from a recurve.

I have never used a longbow before. Although I think it would be loads of fun. I love bows, it takes skill to use them.

Also, I never tricked my bows out like I have seen others do. The only thing I have extra is a forearm guard and a finger guard. I don't use a trigger, I don't use sights, or any of that extra crap. I sight down the shaft of the arrow.

I had a riser mounted sight on my compound but no peep and I never used a release either. My longbow is naked.. a stick and a string... anything more would defeat the purpose of going traditional. You are so right there is nothing like the feel of a bare bow. The transition of force from your arm to the bow to the arrow is so damned zen. Ya gotta love it. My practice sessions are like meditation.

I've shot with a longbow and a recurve bow a few times. I've always wanted a compound bow though.

Compounds are ok. They are easier with the breaking point and everything, but there is such a feeling of power when you release a recurve. Especially when you draw and hold it for a bit as you sight in, you feel your arms and fingers getting tired, then let loose.

Just can't get that with a compound imo.

I've never been an archer myself, but I've always been absolutely fascinated with it.
Chaos: I have an ex who is a former champion with throwing knives.
