mine are made of creek pebbles. I need to get new ones the person i bought them from didn't palce coloring into the etching well enough and it's hard to read them. plus they're in KC in MO with my previous two tarot decks so I can't use them where I am anyway.

What type of runes do you use for divination? I want to make my own set, but I don't know what runes to use.

I made a set from white air-dry clay, with the runes carved into them and the stained with a mix of blood and ochre. They're quite helpful for my studies, however I would really like to get a few set (birch, holly, stone) and experience the difference (if any) with other materials, since I'm not too attached to the clay.

    I think I have a picture of them pre-staining...

(And yes, the backward Eihwaz has been remedied since the photo was taken, lol... Never trust the pictures in Diana Paxon's book, I tell ya...)

I'm looking at getting a blank birch set from http://www.tarahill.com soon and carving them myself.

Mine are made out of those too.. I painted them on and used a sealer to seal them. works great.

I made mine out of polished pale grey pebbles, penned and painted. I'm planning on making a set out of lightning-felled yew or ash, which are actually quite common in my area.

I'm not sure to be honest. I have a couple of sets though. My best guess would be coloured glass.

Well, I had a stone set.... they dissapeared 1 or 2 at a time.
I had a clay set (real, fired and glazed clay).... They "blew up" in the bag. (well, most of them)
I had a small wood set ....that went to splinters.
I now have a wood set I made that seems to have held up though I have not used them in over a year now.

I have no idea why this keeps happening to my runes.... any ideas?

I had some runes I made with air-dry clay, but some of them broke down on me and now I haven't really got a set anymore. When I have some more time on my hands, I'll give it another shot. I'd prefer to make them out of wood now, though.

Rune stones are great big things set outdoors to inform people. My rune sets are rune staves carved on wood. Crazy isn't it?
