    making own rune set

I was wondering if anyone has made their own rune set? Not out of the "make it yourself kits" that you can find at your favorite store, but out of stones, wood, etc.

I made my own out of citrine. I picked this stone as it doesn't need to be cleansed, not to mention I kept coming across it every place I looked when I was doing a search for stone meanings when choosing a stone to use. I used black oil based paint to paint the runes on the stones.
I didn't just pick any old one from the pile and start painting. What I did was, I put them in a bag big enough to stick my hand in and couldn't see them. Then I got out the various information that I came across on the meanings of the runes and read it outloud. Then I placed my hand in the bag and felt around while concentrating on the symbol of the rune, and the meaning. Then when one felt right in my fingers, I took it out of the bag and painted the rune on it. Did this for all of them. It took a few days for the paint to dry. After that I started carrying one I picked out of the pile each week, to get to know them.

I talked to the owner of one of the stores I frequent here in town and she said that she hasn't come across anyone in her life time who has made a rune set this way.

So just wondered if anyone else in this world has?

"The Triple Goddess as Maiden, Mother and Crone, is a relatively new concept which was made popular during the 20th century. Hekate is today most often equated to the Crone aspect of this triplicate archetypal image, but this idea of Hekate as Crone Goddess is one which would have been completely alien to the people of ancient Greece. The only possible explanation for the continued association today is that somehow the darker, scarier aspects of Hekate has been equated to wisdom in old age, which is, when you think about it rather ludicrous." -- Sorita D'Este. Looks like the threads have already been bumped up....thanks, Rick and Mithrea.

I've made a set from Scupley clay and plan to paint one on some glass stars that I found. I saw a very nice set this weekend that was crafted on those flat marbles used for crafts and floral arrangements........

I made both my sets from those glass beads that you find at the bottom of fish tanks, and painted the symbols on with acrylic paint. I have to say, they work real well when I use them.

River rocks are great, too, when you can find enough that are all around the same size........
