    Smile Recommendations for Rune Books

Over in tarot were talking books at the moment and I thought it would be nice to tie it in here too..
So come on everyone ~ what books about rune's do you like/hate/have/recommend?

    Ive got only two ~
The Magic of Rune by Micheal Howard ~ a small 96 page book which is more of an introduction than anythign to do with magick, but still a good read.
Principles of Runes by Freya Aswynn ~ a great all round book on the runes ~ id recommend this to any beginner.
New mommy & loving every minute of it!

I'm going to list recommended authors, rather than books, since some (like Thorsson) have written a large number of books on the subject...

These authors are generally acknowledged as "The Masters" (at least, of the latter part of the 20th century up to the present); any/all of their books are on Uncle Ricky's REQUIRED Rune Reading List (although some are already out of print... more's the pity):

    Kveldulf Gundarsson (particularly Teutonic Magic)
Edred Thorsson (aka Stephen Flowers) (particularly Futhark)
Freya Aswynn (particularly Northern Mysteries & Magick & the above mentioned Principles)

These authors are on Uncle Ricky's RECOMMENDED Rune Reading List (good stuff; only pass 'em over if it's a choice between one of these & one of the above):

    Lisa Peschel
    Bernard King
    Nigel Pennick
    Jan Fries
    Ralph Elliott
    Michael Howard
    Karl Spiesberger
    Donald Tyson
    Guido von List

These are authors of academic works, such as histories of Runes, Eddas, historical & other Rune references, & related topics:

    Lee M. Hollander
    Sophus Bugge
    Elsa-Brita Titchenell
    R.I. Page
    Tacitus
    F. E. Farwerck
    Marija Gimbuttas
    Gloria Farley
    Brian Bates
    Pete Carroll
    R.W.V. Elliott
    Erik Moltke
    Georges Dumezil
    Jacob Grimm
    Snorri Sturluson
    Carl Jung

I'm sure there are many others worth mentioning... by that same token, there are many others not worth mentioning...

Sorry, I don't know of any threads, but I can give you this...

Look for Runelore by Edredd Thorssen. It is very in depth and gives a lot of history and compares different futhark systems from ancient to newer.
You might also try this jordsvin@AOL.com. I was told he is very knowledgable.

thanks for your help, I went to a half price book store and found a couple books on runes, so I picked them up. I'll do a search again also. See what turns up.
