    Strange religious dream

A few nights ago I had a weird dream about fighting religions. Until this I never used to record dreams, but this was so strange that I decided I should probably start.

I was in a completely war-torn Church (no roof, rubble everywhere) with other people, most I don't know. There were two different religious groups in there, both with Pope's, fighting, and my dad was trying to explain the differences in their religions to me using spoons to symbolise their papal hats. A lot of people were sitting at the pews studying the different religions from encyclopedias and the like, and while I was listening to my dad we saw a bomb drop from the sky (as there was no roof), and it landed about 50 metres away behind a nearby building. I ducked under a table to avoid shrapnel, and when I came back up the bomb blast had caused a cyclone. Popes began walking through the aisles carrying large wooden crosses.

I woke up at that point. I wonder if anyone is able to help me figure out what any of this means, as it was quite weird and disturbing. Thank you!

that dream as you described it clearly states to me that you are having issues in regards to determining which religion is right for you. It would seem to me that you are seeing things you agree with and things you dont from both sides. thats my take.

    First, keep recording your dreams!

Second, each person carries a unique set of symbols with them. Sure, we pick up symbols from our culture so that symbols are often shared between persons, but nobody has the particular symbology that you do. Therefore, only you can ultimately determine the meaning of your dreams. Having said that...

Churches can be very personal symbols. Yours might be a symbol of sanctuary, shelter or faith; however, given its condition, it could indicate that the shelter has been torn down, the faith disrupted. The warring factions might be parts of your mind (as Symandinome suggests), people in your life, groups in your society (and not necessarily just Christian ones), even nations at war. And your dream-self seemed a little confused about who was who, which means that these people (or groups or neural networks or whatever) may not be aware that they're at odds with each other - or might be at odds for very superficial reasons. Your dream-self (though not necessarily your conscious self) is outside the conditions of the dream, and some members of both factions seem to be outside of it as well. You mention a group that studies and a group that fights.

Your guide to this dream is your father. Again, a father is a very personal symbol and highly mutable. Your dad in the dream might be the voice of a more analytical part of your mind or a part that wants to embrace some aspect of the situation - or he might be a stressor who pressures you about nonsensical arguments. It probably has a lot to do with how you feel about fathers and father-figures in your life.

I found the idea of spoons explaining papal hats fascinating. Spoons generally put me in mind of consumption or, at least, the act of reaching for sustenance or proportioning it. And the hats would seem to be the key difference between the warring groups. Not ethics or politics or anything heartfelt, but a minor difference in costume. Again, there are many things this could mean. Maybe the consumption is literal, and there is something (false intellectualism, illusions, in-fighting or...) that makes you eat too much or consume toxic food or drink. Or the spoons might indicate the consumption of energy - maybe you are letting someone or some idea or event too far into your energy field. And any of this might have to do with past religious associations, father-figures, feelings of vulnerability or any of a number of other things.

The cyclone might indicate a stirring up of ideas, new and old mixing perhaps. Or a point of great pressure or emphasis, like an exclamation mark or a point of no return. Maybe the new ideas are exposing the conflict within the church; maybe the cyclone helped destroy the church).

So often dream "interpretations" provide more in the way of beginnings than of resolutions. Nonetheless, I hope I've provided some worthwhile avenues of inquiry, and I hope others will share their insight. I found this dream really interesting.

I just noticed a note I'd made after posting the last message. It's rather scrawled, but it seems to be reminding me of something to the effect that the spoons might also be indicative of the consumption of material goods.
