    thanks couldn't remember his name for anything, just recall he changed into a bear and appears a couple of times in the book. I think it's also going to go into more detail inregards to Billbo and the time he spends in the woodelves compound while the dwarves are held captive. Don't recall to much of the necromancer in mirk wood though, been to logn since I last read the book it seems.

    So the necromancer was an aspect of Sauron, he took form in Mirkwood. The Hobbit and LOTR mention him but never get into it other than that eventually the good wizards team up and drive him out.
