    Midsummer playlist

Midsummer tends to be neglected, not having the traditions, songs, etc, it's Winter counterpart has. It is, of course, the longest day of the year, and tradition holds it to be the birth date of John the Baptist. The month of June is dedicated to Jesus, particularly his travels in his youth.
These days, when people hear the term "Midsummer," they associate it with Shakespeare. The Fair Folk weren't associated with Midsummer until that famous play, but now it's a time for them to play their pranks.
So, some songs to get you in the mood, and "tell everyone to lighten up." I noticed an emphasis on California with these songs. Wasn't intentional. It's just a lot of songs relating to Summer involve Los Angeles or San Francisco as their setting.

Martha & the Vandellas - Dancing in the Street

Sly & the Family Stone - Hot Fun in the Summertime

Sheryl Crow - Soak Up The Sun

Grease - Summer Nights Teens & 20-somethings, today, have these songs memorized and always sing along. This movie has become the embodiment of the 70s to them, which is funny since it's actually set in the 50s. It reflects the decade it was made more than the one it takes place in.

Grease - You're The One That I Want

    Grease - We Go Together

    The Jaimies - Summertime, Summertime

    The Surfaris - Wipe Out

The Beach Boys - I Get Around

The Beach Boys - California Girls

Nancy Sinatra & Lee Hazlewood - Summer Wine

Scott McKenzie - San Francisco From Monterey Pop

The Animals - San Franciscan Nights

The Beatles - All You Need Is Love

Canned Heat - Going Up The Country From Woodstock

Eric Burdon & War - Spill the Wine

Mungo Jerry - In the Summertime

The Lovin' Spoonful - Summer in the City

    The Runaways - California Paradise

Billy Idol - Hot in the City

Bow Wow Wow - I Want Candy Only in the 80s could a girl with a mohawk be the object of teen boy crushes.

The Go-Gos - Our Lips Are Sealed

That's a good list. I always have Midsummer off of work so it ends up being a pretty focused day for me.
