Question Candle spells, the way the candle burns and the wax?

Does it mean much in the result of the spell according to how long it takes the candle to burn down, if there is lots of melted wax left over or none when it is done burning? If so can you fill me in on this.

No--it doesn't mean anything in how long it takes to burn, (of course, this is JMO). As for leftover wax, I normally bury or dispose of it depending on what the ritual was for.

Not normally. I guess it would depend on the nature of the spell.

    JMO and YMMV,

I don't think that the melted wax has anything to do with your spell. The amount of wax that drips just depends on your candle(the color and quality of it).

Generally, it depends on what type candle used (say, tall taper vs tealight), on whether the wick is 'centered' in the candle, whether the candle is level as it burns, etc...

That said, I've had some incredible instances where significant images were formed in the melted wax... or the candle crackled & 'spit' a lot as it burned... stuff like that... was it meaningful? I dunno, but it certainly didn't feel that way at the time... so I'd say it's sorta like knowing when a dream means something & when it's random synapses firing... ya just sorta know...

Yeah I agree no meaning in how long it takes. I toss it when I am done unless there is visible ash then I toss it in the wind.

Sometimes I think it does and sometimes it doesnt. If i am asking for a response then the crackling I often associate with guides or spirits being htere and wishing to speak is important. It all depends on the circumstance.

At one time I thought that candle magic was kind of a bunny thing and not something that was to be taken very seriously. Then I came across something in one of my history books that changed my mind. In the fifth century when the missionary Martin was wageing war with the Pagans beliefs in europe,a letter from Rome was sent to him for the purpose of a sermon. These types of letters were a good judge of what the Pagans in europe believed and practiced at that time. I'll quote some of the relevant material.

" For to burn candles at stones and trees and springs and where three roads meet, What is it but the worship of the Devil?"

Apparently the Pagans were going to church on sunday and still practiceing magic and makeing sacrifices on the side. This was taken from a book "The Barbarian Conversion" by Richard Fletcher. Candle magic probably goes back thousands of years, who knows?
/This book is a wealth of information concerning early European Pagans and their beliefs and I think it should be on every Neo-Pagans' bookshelf.
