Prophetic Dream?

I am very new to dream interpretation - actually this is my first dream that I've really felt a strong need to "dissect" so to speak.

This is actually a dream that I had about a year ago, and it's a pretty intricate dream, but the gist of it involves me meeting a man under unexpected circumstances who turns out to be the equivilant of my "soul mate". In this dream I have a different life than what I actually have - In the dream I am living in a different city, have a different group of friends (though, interestingly, some of my friends were still the same), etc. In the dream I was also done with grad school, had a job in my career field, and had a drastic increase in income (I'm currently in grad school). It was actually a very nice dream!

What's unusual about this dream is how vivid it was, and the "effect" that it's had on me. I have not been able to shake this dream or the feeling it left me with - a year later! It's to the point that I feel like it was trying to tell me something. It has made me analyze different aspects of my life, and realize that I'm somewhat unhappy with them. All of a sudden (well, within the last year) I can not get done with school fast enough, my current life is irritating to me, I hate where I live, I'm not exactly thrilled with my current long term relationship, etc. It's almost like my head has been divided between this "happy place" in this dream and my "crappy reality".

Also interesting is the city that I lived in in my dream, is one that I visit from time to time for work, etc. that I've always had a "draw" to. Since I've had that dream, when I visit that city it is almost painful for me to leave it. The last time I was there, as I was on the express way leaving the city to head back home, the feelings I felt were almost traumatic - like something was being ripped out of me. I've also noticed a strange new-found attraction to men in miltary positions since this dream - odd, and maybe un-related?

Can a dream change your life? I've had plenty of perfectly wonderful dreams before that have never altered the way I view my life, but this feeling has gone on since I've had this dream almost a year ago - am I going crazy?

I just discovered the more appropriate sub-forum to post this in, but can't seem to be able to delete this original post. Is this something a moderator needs to do for me? Sorry for the confusion... yes, I'm new. : )

Hola!

If you feel the thread belongs in a more appropriate thread there're two ways you could get it moved. Just ask a mod or the appropriate guide, otherwise you can always make a thread in the site room and ask there

I've got a theory about dreams, draws and premonistic visions (as I'd classify this one)... this theory could go on for paragraphs and even chapters of multiple posts, but in this case i feel it best to sum it up in a few words/sentences.

I feel a lot of what we consider psychic phenomena is actually the human being (not just body, or the explanation of a person, but "being") seeing the most likely realities can sink into and point out a certain reality that is the sum of what you innerly crave for... I'd expand upon this but as said previously, wind is in my screen name for a reason... as in can be long winded...

I'd suggest that if you wish to manifest this reality to cut to the chase, it'd be best to follow thine heart, and accept it as your goal, not to an obsessive level, but... I suppose... will it into the main view for your life via knowing it's going to happen, just make sure you persevere with your present life and don't be too neglectful of your current surroundings as I can assure you there are things now that you should learn so that when you go to this other city you don't arrive with the previous lessons still forebearing.

Blessed Be,
Thought

I don't have a problem with this post being here.
I always found prophetic dreaming to be a very interesting subject, but it's not something that appears to be common.

I find more often than not that a dream that appears to be foretelling quite often is laden with symbols and signs that do not necessarily coincide with future events but rather they mirror what is currently going on in the dreamer's life.

So in that case, maybe prophetic isn't the right term to use for this dream? It doesn't seem to correspond to anything that is actually going on in mhy life right now - if anything it has caused me to reject most of what is going on in my life right now.
I've just never had a dream, or anything for that matter, that has caused such an effect in me. I'm an "active" dreamer - some I remember, some I don't, but I've never had one that has "stuck" with me for a year and made me reconsider everything in my life - little scary!

I'd agree with WomanMonster, prophetic dreams can be extremely vivid but extremely symbolic, whereas the type of dream you described is more upon the line of premonition as a descriptor were I to venture a guess

I would gradually over a long period of time, increase the relation with this town you mention, maybe you will feel its the right path, maybe not. Just dont change your life radically to fast, so you dont repent. Also dont follow the dream obsessively, nor try to replicate the exact pictures you had. The interesting part was actually that you felt pulled to this town and it gave a negative feeling when you left it. Go on feelings on this one, try n learn from it

Thanks for the input guys - I think you've confirmed what I think I knew all along. While I may never know the true origin of this dream, or what it "means", I know that it's significant in some way, and I feel that I need to explore the changes that it made me want to initiate in my life - slowly, over time. We'll just have to see where this all leads!

It sounds to me like you are on the right track, TT. I think that dreams, for the most part, are not that spiritually significant. But then every once in a while Someone wants to get a message through to us and give it in a dream. I've had one, maybe two such dreams in my life and they have guided me ever since.

For comparison, in the biblical story of Joseph, the Pharaoh had his dream that no one could interpret. Or at least, the Bible says no one could interpret it. I have a hard time believing that in a court full of magickally orientated people nobody could interpret dreams. I think what really happened (if there's any truth to the story in the first place), is that Pharaoh and his people all recognized the dream as being a message sent from a deity, and that only the right person gifted by that same deity could unlock it's true meaning.

Anyway, this is what dream interpretation means to me. It makes it more prophetic than anything else, because you are basically delivering a message for a God, rather than using learned associations to analyze what was going on inside somebody's head the moment they had the dream.

Like I say, you seem to be going in the right direction with yours.
