Your Opinion on an herb/oil for....

My daughter.

I have been researching and gathering information and all that jazz on making salves, ointments, etc etc.

Anyways, I have decided on my first project...for my daughter.

She made the varsity basketball team and..with that, comes much more bumps, bruises and sore muscles as this year she practices every day after school, sometimes on weekends, has way more games and also practices at the park.

So, id like to make her something to rub into her muscles at night to help with the soreness and also something to relax her.

I would like your opinions on an herb, or combo of herb or oils on what would be best to use for her.

Lavender is great; Chamomile is also wonderful for the swelling that occurs with bruised muscles and can be relaxing as well.

Comfrey leaves, lightly boiled and made into a poultice work well... this can be backed up with homeopathic arnica- given before the game- I have found this works well... as well as the Arnica cream- but this shouldn't be applied to open wounds, nor should you try to make it yourself as the arnica plant is highly toxic.

Thanks yall.

Dont worry, nothing is going to be applied to open wounds, I just wanted to make her something to help relax her and soothe her acking muscles so she can get some good sleep at night.

I was thinking lavander for relaxing, but I didnt think about rosemary or eucalyptus.

I never heard of Arnica before, I had to google it and it sounds like something that would be good for her to use. Would a pharmacy carry it or a healthfood store or where herbs or sold?

Thanks again yall

Health food stores usually have lots of arnica cream. It's good for the muscles, so is Tiger Balm that is a deep heat into the muscles, stinks too will be great for the sheets but works a charm .

Perhaps a warm soak in a bath with some lavender and some herbs?

If she is realllly sore after a hard practice she will soak in the tub, but usually she just likes taking a quick shower and then lay in bed and read.

I'll have to take a trip into the city to get to a health food store..I might call around first and see if they have any before I make the trip, cause id hate to get there and they not carry it or be out.

I was thinking if I get the cream, about making her a lotion/salve/rub/thing with Lavender and Chamomile. She likes both and if it helps relax her then thats a double plus for her, heh.

If you want to use essential oils, you can get lavender and chamomile essential oil, and dilute it 5 drops per teaspoon of base oil. That would make a great massage oil/muscle rub for your daughter after practice.
