Spells vs Constructs?
What exactly is the difference between a spell and a construct?
Lemme quickly explain a construct: - A ball of energy programmed with a particular intent. I know when I create constructs, I usually expect the outcome to manifest immediately. With Spells, outcomes manifest over time -- or so I'm told. Are they both just different techniques for accessing the same part of the brain? Can someone please clarify this for me? Thanks! |

I'd say that constructs are entities while, spells are energy sent out to do a specific task. Like constructs are more like robots, while a spell might be more like an arrow shot at a target. But i honestly think thier purposes are different...at least for me. I wouldn't use a construct for the same things i'd use a spell for. I'd use a construct to say, help me contain energy if i was doing a particuarly large spell, or maybe to patrol my house for negative energy and get rid of it in addition to any wards set up. I see constructs are more a familiar, or helper than anything else.
I don't think that spells have any specific time frame, i wouldn't say that they take longer than anything else. They very well can be immediate or fast responding, or they may take longer i think it depends on circumstances and how the spell was done.

Where have you heard about this "construct" thing, [V]? Maybe I'm just not up with certain terminology, but I haven't run across the term before in this particular context. Then again, I'm the sort that likes to avoid boxing things up with labels and prefers to just experience.
![]() Regardless, seems to me the distinction would be personal, based on what you believe about the nature of reality in general. I thought of that as I read Faelon_Moon_Hawk's response, as s/he seems to inherently set up a distinction between "entities" and "energy" that others might not agree with. I know I've met some who believe all of reality is fundamentally just energy, so for them to distinguish between entities and energy would be nonsensical.

I agree with Faelon Moon Hawk. A construct would be akin to a robot - it is, in the most basic sense, an artificial being with the capacity to make decisions (albeint within the limitations of its programming). To me, a spell is more about using one's will to cause change - and often includes drawing upon energies from various external sources. I would say that the difference is that a construct has a bit more 'primitive intelligence' and has form.
