Trying to be local for Yule this year

What are some ideas for Yule? It will be nearly impossible to local as we are so far north and I had not done enough planning. However, I'd still like to try.

I purchased a whole pig and we had a full leg smoked for Yule dinner. I have no idea how to cook it though (oops ) -- the thing is 18lbs.

Potatoes, onions, turnips, sausage and bread stuffing, carrots, parsnips, beets -- the standard.

Dessert - christmas pudding. it's mostly raisins - not a local food, I know - but I added a lot of cranberries, blueberries, and apricots (again, not local).

...what else should go with this?

Ah Yule . . . well we will burn our Yule log that has had our dreams for the coming year carved on it. Then we will have a lovely dinner, we do a dumb dinner for it too . . . you never know who will drop by even on Yule eve. I'm thinking about some cornish game hens, dressing, and fixings. We typically give each other in the coven a gift in memory of someone who has passed the year before or in honor of the old ones. There is singing and so forth. We also bake goodies and so forth, as we are Catholic witches, we get to celebrate Christmas too . . December is one big ball of fun

Ooooo got an idea!

So mistletoe and the like doesn't grow here. Instead, I'm going to make my own "kissing ornament" with local plants and such.

This is a wonderful plan, kristadb. I found a couple great sites if you're looking for more ideas and places to buy the foods you need.

Thanks for the links. Local harvest doesn't appear to have Canadian stuff, but the other link does.

Picked up our smoked ham shoulder from the farmer. 22lbs!
