HUGE PICTURES MANY STONES. Please help!
I'm pretty sure one of them is hematite, but I would like to know the rest. Am able to take more pictures on request (note: I have duplicates of some of these stones as shown.) I think the necklace is just colored glass?

The clear-pink, clear-blue, clear-and-light-blue and clear-and-green stones are dyed clear quartz.
The three clear-and-yellow ones are either dyed quartz, or citrine. I'm thinkin' Citrine. The three large purple stones and three large blue ones are dyed agates. Directly above the purple ones is a Chevron Amethyst. The lumpy gold ones are pyrite/Fools Gold. The one in the top left looks like Tri-Color Calcite, the one directly below it is a Jasper of some kind (I want to say "orbicular" or "Brecciated"). The smooth silver ones are Hematite, though the one next to them looks like Healer's Gold, or Lodestone. The orangey one at the top appears to be carnelian. The six small purple stones appear to be Amethyst. The "stripey" white ones look to be Sardonyx. The white one with the green mossy bits appears to be a Dendritic Agate. The others aren't jogging anything in particular.

IS dyed turquoise bad? and I love the brecciated jasper, it's gorgeous.
Are dyed stones in general 'bad'? Edit: Which one is the one in the top left of the last pic? Last edited by Miwu; December 1st, 2009 at 08:49 AM. |

The three small yellow/white ones just below the pink one on the right hand side also appear to be carnelian. (It's my birthstone- along with topaz).

Yes, I meant to say citrine. Don't know why I always mix those up in my head that way. Carnelian is more orange usually eh? I haven't bought but a couple of stones in the last few years, seems like it's getting very difficult to buy stones that haven't been dyed or heat-treated or altered in some way. Bummer.
