Ideas for working with a familiar?

So, I adopted a cat a few months ago and we have become very bonded with each other. One of my friends (who is very sensitive spiritually) says that she is my familiar.

I've never had or worked with a familiar before so i was wondering what sort of things we could do together. Or how I could incorperate her into rituals and spellwork.

My familiar would sit with me in circle, during mediations... anything. It got to the point that i noticed a distrint difference when he wasn't with me during workings. I would always let him smell my tools, any herbs i was working with and I would hold him to see the alter. THankfully he was a small-ish dog!! One thing I always did was place a single hair of his on the alter as well.

He has since passed but his ashes now come into circle and I swear I can sometimes almost feel him back in my lap. Familiars seem to have a way of knowing what to do to help as well!!
