not too many if they also employed their rocket launchers as you seem to be assuming that this world would allow them not to have a functioning rocket launcher. That is my point, one of the stupidest roberries I've ever heard of was someone dumb enough to rob a gunshop... he had 50 or so bullets in his body... you don't hear about too many gun shops getting robbed do you??

that still doesn't address the other issue of storing explosive in places where people live, which as I pointed out before, is stupidly dangerous.

The only real hazard I was decently afraid of was dynamite... given the right nitro mixture the stuff can become very instable if they aren't cared for properly... Cars pose more of a risk than do rockets, biggest rule of thumb with them is to not drop 'em, not because they'll explode, but more on the side that you'll damage the internals. Really, if you ground yourself you've taken the final necessary precaution... In the average household there are items and utilities that scare the crap out of me more than rockets, I'd be more concerned about existing hazards we just accept as commonalities, like a downed powerline... Just because they're marked HE doesn't instantaneously mean they're dangerous 'til loaded... but then again, as far as the proper maintenance/storage of the rounds thing is concerned... I may sound like an asshole who doesn't seem to make a lick of sense when I say it, but I do believe in Darwinism to a certain degree. of course, this could go extremely OT if we were to go into the parallels of rocket safety and gun safety... point being, if you've learned your whole life to respect/maintain/store the gun (or in this case rocket) and the accompanying munitions properly, seldom is the time an accident seems to occur (or at least to those I know and myself too of course I did not get to fire rockets... which was a bummer)...

the problem when talking about darwinism is that in the case of explosives, they tend to kill innocent bystanders as well as the peopel who where being idiots. Also you're probably talking about U.S. munitions, which are probably made to higher standards than certain other types that will probably be more readily accessible.
As for rocket and gun safety once again the main issue is the degree of risk involved, an accident with a gun can kill one person, an accident with a rocket can easily kill 50. Last edited by Nox_Mortus; December 4th, 2009 at 04:06 AM. |

well... I'll tell you what, as far as the rockets killing the innocence, I still account that to Darwinism because of the following example...
"Hey honey, there's a $100k house for sale for $2k that has nothing wrong with it, lets buy it!!" says the wife, "Well... there is that haphazard rocket depot next door according to the signs... I don't know... that person who owns the place seems as if they're a little shaky and unkempt..." responds the husband "Oh, it will be alright, I'm sure nothing bad will happen!" exclaims the exhuberant wife. "Well, if you say so!!" replies the reluctant husband. "come to think of it honey, this would be a perfectly wonderful place to raise our children! Maybe they'll get along with the neighbor!" If that example doesn't illustrate things on that front, as it makes perfect sense to me yet I don't expect it to illustrate the point to others.... If a nation were to make Rocket Launchers mandatory, it would be very much in their interests to enforce inspection and safety codes, as well as place stringent rules in to ensure that the facilities the rocket's are stored in will be in a safe place, for example, making an armory removed from the local populace so if something does go wrong there is little collateral damage. This actually seems to me like it would be the logical choice for a government making this motion mandatory. To answer the question about how and where someone would store their own munitions, that is where coding and fining efforts would come about. In some states you need to store your ammunition in a locked container, and though it doesn't always work out that way, you could technically be fine for it. Explosions may occur, but is that any different from the explosions that occur now? I.E., the alure teens face in becoming rich from making a meth lab in their parents garage, or that neighbor who improperly stores their wide array of paint cans in extremely hot weather, or how about that ill maintained transformer, or fireworks factories that have lead to many unnecessary deaths... then there are many other instances that are more insiduous, like the poor health of some chemical plants that can effectively wipeout thousands of people yet are mostly left to rot as chemicals like Methyl Isocyanite. Disasters waiting to happen are all around, simply walking out your front door leads to increasing odds that you will randomly die due to some form of accident, the fact that I'd propose stringent maintenance/storage criteria for the rockets would exponentially reduce the losses of passerby's that may happen due to the worlds apathy on those other very dangerous, very real threats. In the case of meth labs, many innocent people have died due to a caustic mixture exploding, or the resultant mis-mixture releasing phosphourous... as for chemical factories may I bring up Bhopal or the near disaster of Institute West Virginia, these type of disasters have happened in the past and will certainly happen again, and the death toll will be astronomical if the chemicals actually affect a major source of water. Hell, in some places just simply living in your house can lead to fatality, such as a house I know that (okay goes back into Darwinism as to their repeated decision) has been destroyed multiple times because semi's keep on running it over because someone fell asleep or their brakes give out at the stop sign in front of the building. My main point for this particular facet of my argument is that intrinsic mass casualty hazards are all around from unknown sources and there is seldom a protection from these hazards since there are so many, rockets are quantifiable, rockets can be contained, and rockets can be safely stored in secure locations up to and including underground "bunkers" if necessary. Yes people may miss their targets which can kill more people than most legal guns... under certain circumstances though below I do account briefly for gun variables... if firing ranges were opened to rocket launchers as well (outside ranges only of course) the accuracy of the user could save unintended deaths. Also, I was using U.S. munitions in my example as I use the U.S. as an example and anticipate that availability would not be an issue due to this being a federally mandated bill. As far as accidents are concerned, an accident with a gun can definitely kill more than one person depending on the variables... also, the most common form of gun accident occurs when someone does not pay attention to the number one rule of gun safety, "Treat every gun as if it is loaded, do not point it at something you don't intend to kill." (which I can ensure would be the same leading casualty with rocket launchers) The difference between the two is that it's just a little bit easier to know if a rocket launcher is loaded or not depending on the make and payload of the weapon.
