Has this ever happened to you?

Reiki practitioners, or anyone else that uses energy to heal:

First I'll state that I'm a Reiki 3 , been a practitioner for over a decade.

Second, I'll tell you that I recently gave up all my shields, in order to be a better healer.

So, I was doing reiki yesterday, on a boy that has cancer.
I heard a voice in my head. The 'conversation' went like this:

Voice: This boy is will die.
Me: That may be so, everyone does, but I'll still do what I can to fight it.
Voice: Would you trade your life for his?
Me: If you have the power to drop me dead, here and now, and use my life force to heal this child, so that he may grow into his potential, do it. Right now. If you can't, then GTF out of my head, you're distracting me.

( I am almost 50. The boy is 9 and has a less than 20% chance of living to see his 18th birthday. Yes, I was willing to trade. )
As I am writing this, obviously nothing happened, and the voice went away.

Now I have had conversations with my guides while doing reiki, but this was something new.

Any thoughts???

Nope, never had a conversation like that happen. Wow! I think I would have responded exactly as you did, though.

I am also a Reiki 3.

Reiki is for the highest good, whether that be healing on the physical level, or the emotional/mental level, or the spiritual level. Thus, giving Reiki to the dying is not wasted. One thing that a practitioner may want to keep in mind is that we ultimately do not control the outcome of Reiki, and whether it heals on the physical level or another level.

Perhaps, if that voice was Reiki-related, it was reminding you of that?

I'll be interested to see what others here think about it.

I am Reiki 1, and I have been for almost 8 years. I never think of Reiki as being wasted when you use it on the dying. I have been reminded sometimes though, that healing isn't always about a "cure". Sometimes it is a release from pain, and can lead to death.

Perhaps it was a spirit guide for the boy?

I agree, doing healing work is not an all-or-nothing proposition. Even people who are dying of cancer or something else can benefit from getting healing energies. It may make their passing smoother and less painful, it may help them to have peace of mind about moving from this life to the next one. So it's also possible it was a prompting for you to think again about your role as a healer.

I just had a random thought, and it sounds WAY Sci-Fi so forgive me, but it's too fun not to share. (Fun as in it could spark an interesting discussion)

Perhaps the Voice was that of the boy's illness? I've never had that happen before, and I don't know anyone who has... but it is a very interesting thought... after all, an illness IS a living organism in many cases, so perhaps THIS one found a way to communicate? Especially if the Voice seemed ominous (which you didn't say, specifically).

after reading Lisa's comments... I got this like bolt.... it wasn't electric or anything similar but it was like "Wake-up....." shiver...
Has anyone done The Journey By Brandon Bays.......? this reminded me very much like this......Lisa that comment made much sense......
It was like the illness was fighting... has being sick benefited the child in anyway....? The child has had more attention from others, maybe the centre of attention all the time? More gifts, special treatment? Maybe if he was better he wouldn't get the same treatment......(Just a thought...)

The other thoughts that made sense.....were about reminding us as Healers is not always our role to cure but to ease the life of the person....living until their time of passing......We are the channel for the energy, life force from the Universe.....It is not us doing the Healing but the Universal Energy......we are the wires the energy passes through to the person needing what it needs whatever that may be, we do not decided what the client needs, their bodies do.... Their Higher Self....and if they decided where to send the healing energy, the body decides where to send it, not always what you think....should happen is what happens....

Just some thoughts, rambling out...from within....

Okay this answer may sound out there, but it kinda makes sense.
In a book i was reading last week (yes fiction but go with me here) all magic , healing, etc. came at a price. Sometimes just energy but sometimes more such as having to do certain things for other people etc. Well these "prices" came from the higher powers in order to keep the balance in the world. And usuallyy came in the form of the conversations such as the one you described at the time of casting or healing.

I know some of you are probably thinking something along the lines of this is a book you are talking about, something that was made up by someone else. But honestly, is it so impossible that Someone didnt come and ask for a price for the healing? Not your life, but maybe the acknowledgement that the boy was worth giving your life for to save. That if it came down to it, you would trade yours for his.

A reason for Them to aid you in a healing that would surpass the amount of energy you could provide for it. Yes, i know, out there, but its a thought.

Why would removing all one's shields make one a better healer?

Shields can be raised and lowered at will, they can be tweaked or filtered or modified. I don't use one all the time, but when I did have one up 24/7 I don't think it interfered with my healing abilities.

I dont think it would, lunacie. I dont do much in the way of shielding anymore- cause i find it unnessecary for me- but the only time i think it might be beneficial to not have your shields "UP" is when you are actually involved with the client, so that you can be as sensitive as possible.

the rest of the time, detachment- especially from your clients- is very important to being a good healer. you have to take time off from work to do your best
